A New Trailer Arrives For ‘Snowpiercer’ Season 2

by Dave Elliott

US network TNT has released a trailer for the 2nd Season of fantastic drama Snowpiercer, which premieres in the US (and hopefully the UK) in January 2021.

Set more than seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, Snowpiercer centres on the remnants of humanity, who inhabit a gigantic, perpetually-moving train that circles the globe. Class warfare, social injustice and the politics of survival play out.

WARNING SEASON 1 SPOILERS BELOW!

If you’ve watched through to the end of Season 1, you’ll know it finished with the revelation that Snowpiercer is not the only train on the tracks! The final two episodes cover the conclusion of the “Tailies” rebellion, which saw Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs) gain control of the train from First Class with the help of the recently deposed Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly). Whilst the train is just beginning to set up a more democratic “new normal”, the Engine picks up a strange radio broadcast. It seems that the signal comes from Big Alice, a supply train running on a prototype of the Eternal Engine… And they believe the man at the helm is non-other than Mr. Wilford himself!

During the panel at MCM/NYCC Metaverse today, it was confirmed that Sean Bean and Rowan Blanchard join the main cast for Season 2. We briefly saw Blanchard in the first season finale as Melanie’s long-thought-dead daughter, Alexandra. Whilst we did hear Bean’s voice in season one, we’ve not yet seen him on-screen in the show, other than in trailers.

Season 2 promises to be an interesting arc with, not only to see how Wilford’s appearance affects the fragile peace on the train, but also for Alexandra. Having spent so much time with Wilford, her views on her mother are, I think it’s fair to say, going to be somewhat tainted by bias! “She’s been held in sway by Wilford,” comments showrunner Graeme Manson. “But when she sees her mother in action, and begins to understand who her mother is, it begins a very, very interesting Season 2 journey for her.”

‘Snowpiercer’ is produced by Tomorrow Studios (a joint venture between Marty Adelstein and ITV Studios), along with CJ Entertainment, who produced the original film. The series is executive produced by Tomorrow Studios’ Marty Adelstein (‘Cowboy Bebop’, ‘Hanna’, ‘Prison Break’) and Becky Clements (‘Aquarius’, ‘Last Man Standing’); showrunner Graeme Manson (‘Orphan Black’), who wrote the first episode; director James Hawes (‘The Alienist’, ‘Black Mirror’); Matthew O’Connor (‘Continuum’, ‘Tin Man’); Scott Derrickson (‘Sinister’, ‘Doctor Strange’), and the original film’s producers Bong Joon Ho, Miky Lee, Tae-sung Jeong, Park Chan-wook, Lee Tae-hun and Dooho Choi.

Snowpiercer‘ Season 2 will premiere January 25th, 2021, on TNT in the USA. The series runs on Netflix outside of America, a few days after the US broadcast, so hopefully, it will do again, but we’ll let you know when we hear something official from the streaming service.
