Wentworth Miller Returns As ADA Isaiah Holmes In ‘Law & Order: SVU’ Season 22

After the recent news that Wentworth Miller would not be returning to ‘Prison Break’, it has been announced that the actor will be reprising his role as ADA Isaiah Holmes on long-running drama Law & Order: SVU in the 22nd Season.

Miller first played the character in the Season 21 episode ‘Murdered At A Bad Address’, but is set to return as ADA Isaiah Holmes in an upcoming episode which sees him promoted to lead the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Civil Rights Unit. ADA Carisi (Peter Scanavino) will request Holmes’ assistance when one of his former classmates becomes the subject of an investigation.

Along with returning to ‘SVU’ and previously starring in the aforementioned ‘Prison Break’, Miller also played Captain Cold in ‘The Flash’ and ‘Legends of Tomorrow’, before going out in a blaze of glory at the end of Season 1. The character has popped up a number of times since (due to the timey-wimey nature of Legends), and they also introduced Citizen Cold, an alternate universe version of the character, in ‘Crisis on Earth-X’. He also played Senator Mark Hanson in ‘Madam Secretary’.

Recently Miller took to Instagram to announce that the long-mooted 6th Season of ‘Prison Break’ would not be happening, as he no longer wanted to play straight characters on-screen. The actor, who came out as gay in 2013, commented “I’m out. Of PB. Officially. I just don’t want to play straight characters. Their stories have been told (and told). So. No more Michael. If you were a fan of the show, hoping for additional seasons… I understand this is disappointing. I’m sorry.”

Whilst that does mean no more ‘Prison Break’, ADA Isaiah Holmes is an openly gay character, so he’s sticking by that rule. Whether this leads to Holmes appearing in more episodes, or even the upcoming ‘SVU’ spin-off Law & Order: Organized Crime remains to be seen. This is more of a fan-with, but Citizen Cold was also a gay character, so there is a possibility that iteration of Snart could turn up again in the future if the Arrowverse ever need something chilling again!

Law & Order: SVUreturned for Season 22 on November 12th on NBC in the USA. We don’t yet have a UK premiere date for the series, however, it is likely to be at some point in “Early 2021”.

The reason for this is due to the pandemic pushing back the US premiere by around 6 weeks from its usual September date. Sky like to leave a bit of a gap between the US and UK air dates, due to the stop/start nature of the US schedule, which will often skip weeks for things like Thanksgiving or other US events. Sky, understandably, want to remove those gaps, so leave a month to two months between the UK and the USA. Launching a long-running show this side of Christmas doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, so it will most likely be pushed on Sky Witness to 2021. We’ll let you know when we hear something official though.
