‘Prison Break’ Season 6 Is Definitely Not Happening

Prison Break may not have been on air since 2017, but rumour has constantly been swirling about the possibility of a second revival of the show after the last “event series” outing a few years ago. Yesterday, stars Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell finally locked away the idea for good.

Taking to Instagram, Wentworth Miller commented “I’m out. Of PB. Officially. I just don’t want to play straight characters. Their stories have been told (and told).” The actor, who came out as gay in 2013 continued “So. No more Michael. If you were a fan of the show, hoping for additional seasons… I understand this is disappointing. I’m sorry.”

He goes on to talk about the “static on social media” he has received since he came out, and comments that whilst that hadn’t directly affected his decision, it did centre the issue for him. You can read his full statement here.

His co-star Dominic Purcell, who only a few weeks ago, had said the 6th Season was on-track to happen, then posted a video message saying “Prison Break 6 is not going to happen. I had a long, long, talk with Wentworth and his reasonings as to why he doesn’t want to partake in Prison Break 6. So honourable and fully legit, and I cannot persuade, nor would I ever attempt to persuade him from his truth, so that’s it. 6 isn’t going to happen. And if it does happen, it’s not going to happen with myself or Wentworth, because I’m loyal to Wentworth.”

The original series ended in 2009, and starred Purcell as Lincoln, a man convicted of a murder he didn’t commit and had been sentenced to death. Miller starred as his genius brother, Michael, who intentionally gets himself arrested to break him out, using maps and information which he has tattooed on his body. In 2017, FOX revived the show for an “event series”, but soon after announced that development had begun on a potential 6th Season. Sadly, that will no longer happen, or if it does, it will no longer have the two original stars.

Sarah Wayne Callies, who played Michael’s wife on the dram also joined him in support, saying “yesterday [Wentworth] announced he’s done playing Michael Scofield because as a gay man he wants to focus on playing gay characters. With gratitude for all the work we did together, & with deep love, I’m voicing my support for that choice. To all the fans, know this: the cast of prison break is a queer-friendly space. we stand with – and among – our friends & family in the LGBTQ+ community with full-throated support for their rights and artistic work. all the time. always.”

If you want to catch up on the 5 Seasons of Prison Break, the series is available to watch on Netflix in the UK.
