‘Lucifer’ Season 5b Gets May Premiere Date On Netflix

Lucifer is back for the second half of Season 5 this May Netflix has announced today.

‘Lucifer’ follows Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis), the original fallen angel, who became dissatisfied with his life in hell. Retiring to L.A., he inadvertently teams up with an LAPD detective (Lauren German) to help punish criminals. Joining him on Earth is his angelic brother Amenadiel (D. B. Woodside), and his former head torturer demon turned bounty hunter Mazikeen (Lesley-Ann Brandt).

For those of you trying to remember where we left things, Luci had returned from hell, and but no one was in a happy place. Dan was struggling to deal with this revelation that Lucifer (as Luci had been saying all along) was actually the devil. So much so, he actually tries shooting the lord of hell. As Luci falls to the floor, Chloe panics, knowing being near him makes him vulnerable… except for some reason, it seems that is no longer the case. Meanwhile, Ella (Aimee Garcia) discovers Pete, the guy she has been dating, is “The Whisper Killer”, and Maze is mad a Luci for hiding her mother from her. Oh, and there is also the issue of Micheal, Luci’s brother, showing up and sowing discord, helped by the fact he looks exactly like Lucifer. This all culminates in a standoff, with Maze and Micheal on one side, against Amenadiel and Lucifer on the other. As the wings come out ready for a full-blow showdown, a voice booms for them to stop, saying “children, you know I hate it when you fight…” It seems daddy dearest (aka God) has decided to step in…

We now know that the voice behind God will be ’24’ star Dennis Haysbert as he takes on the role of the Almighty this season. Other guest stars for Season 5b include Rob Benedict (who played God in ‘Supernatural’) as a mercenary who gets entangled with the LAPD; Scott Porter (‘Friday Night Lights’) as Carol Corbett, a buttoned-up detective from Dan’s past who joins the LAPD and quickly strikes up a connection with Ella; Merrin Dungey (‘Alias’) as Sonya, a no-nonsense cop who forms an unlikely bond with DB Woodside’s angel; and Brianna Hildebrand (‘Trinkets’, ‘Deadpool’) as Rory, a rebellious and angsty angel hoping to follow in Lucifer’s footsteps.

Season 5b will consist of eight episodes, which will then leave us with a 6th and definitely final, final season of ten episodes coming at some point after that.

Lucifer‘ Season 5b premieres Friday, 28th May 2021 on Netflix UK and worldwide.
