‘Bridgerton’ Renewed For Seasons 3 AND 4!
This shouldn’t be a huge surprise given what a massive hit the show has been, but in a rare move for Netflix, the streaming service has renewed ‘Bridgerton‘ for a 3rd and 4th Season on top of the upcoming 2nd Season, which had already been commissioned.
From Shondaland and Creator Chris Van Dusen (‘Scandal’, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’), ‘Bridgerton’ follows Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor – ‘Younger’, ‘Waterloo Road’), the eldest daughter of the powerful Bridgerton family as she makes her debut onto Regency London’s competitive marriage market. Hoping to follow in her parent’s footsteps and find a match sparked by true love, Daphne’s prospects initially seem to be unrivalled. But as her older brother begins to rule out her potential suitors, the high society scandal sheet written by the mysterious Lady Whistledown casts aspersions on Daphne. Enter the highly desirable and rebellious Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page – ‘For The People’, ‘Waterloo Road’), committed bachelor and the catch of the season for the debutantes’ mamas. Despite proclaiming that they want nothing the other has to offer, their attraction is undeniable and sparks fly as they find themselves engaged in an increasing battle of wits while navigating society’s expectations for their future.
As has come something of a tradition for ‘Bridgerton’ announcements, this one came in the form of a missive from “Lady Whistledown’s Society Papers” which you can read below:
“From the first time I read Julia Quinn’s delicious Bridgerton series, I knew these were stories that would captivate a viewing audience. But the evolution of this adaptation would not be a success without the many significant contributions of the entire Shondaland team,” commented Shonda Rhimes. “This two-season pickup is a strong vote of confidence in our work and I feel incredibly grateful to have partners as collaborative and creative as Netflix. Betsy and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue bringing the world of Bridgerton to a worldwide audience.”
‘Bridgerton’ is a romantic, scandalous, and quick-witted series that celebrates the timelessness of enduring friendships, families finding their way, and the search for a love that conquers all. The series is created by longtime Shonda Rhimes collaborator, Chris Van Dusen (‘Scandal’, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, ‘Private Practice’), inspired by Julia Quinn’s novels. Van Dusen exec produces alongside Shondaland’s Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers.
“Bridgerton swept us off our feet. The creative team, led by Shonda, knew the material and delivered a beautiful, emotional, romantic drama for our members,” adds Bela Bajaria, Netflix VP of global TV. “They have some exciting plans for the future, and we think audiences will continue to swoon for this show. We’re planning to be in the Bridgerton business for a long time to come.”
The 2nd Season is set to follow the pursuit of a suitable marriage for the eldest Bridgerton sibling, Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), following the plot of the second novel, ‘The Viscount Who Loved Me’.
