‘Lucifer’: Season 6 Gets September Premiere Date On Netflix

by Dave Elliott

At a Comic-Con@Home panel late last night, the cast and crew of Lucifer revealed the series 6th and definitely final (this time no backsies) season will premiere this September on Netflix.

‘Lucifer’ follows Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis), the original fallen angel, who became dissatisfied with his life in hell. Retiring to L.A., he inadvertently teams up with an LAPD detective (Lauren German) to help punish criminals. Joining him on Earth is his angelic brother Amenadiel (D. B. Woodside), and his former head torturer demon turned bounty hunter Mazikeen (Lesley-Ann Brandt).

The most recent fifth season changed things, a lot, for our favourite devil (Season 5 SPOILERS, obviously…) Lucifer and Amenadiel had a visit from dear old dad… aka God himself (Dennis Haysbert). But when The Almighty decides he is going to retire, this sets off a competition between Lucifer and his brother Michael (also played by Tom Ellis) as to who will get the top job. Chloe decides to give up being a detective and, assuming Lucifer will become the new God, will work by his side. However, whilst on her last case, Dan (Kevin Alejandro) is shot and killed. The season culminates in a massive showdown between Lucifer and Michael. During the battle, Michael fatally wounds Chloe, and she ascended to Heaven. Protected by Lilith’s immortality ring, Lucifer enters Heaven to get her and sacrifices himself to resurrect her, before igniting for breaking his banishment. Now back on Earth, Chloe beats Michael into submission, and Lucifer suddenly reappears. Opting for mercy rather than murder, Lucifer cuts off Michael’s wings, giving him a second chance on Earth. His selfless sacrifice to rescue Chloe and showing mercy to his brother proves him worthy of becoming the new God…

As we head into the final season (for real this time!), The devil himself has become God… almost. Why is he hesitating? And as the world starts to unravel without a God, what will he do in response? Join us as we say a bittersweet goodbye to Lucifer, Chloe, Amenadiel, Maze, Linda, Ella and Dan. Bring tissues.

The Comic-Con panel (watch below) sees Tom Ellis with showrunners Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich discuss in more detail the repercussions of Lucifer taking the top job, the heartbreak of Dan’s shocking death, and tease what’s to come in the final season.

Lucifer‘ Season 6 premieres Friday, 10th September 2021 on Netflix UK and worldwide.
