‘Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist’ Season 2 Gets September UK Premiere Date On E4

The utterly wonderful Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist is finally returning to the UK, as E4 sets a September premiere date for Season 2 of the musical dramedy.

The series centres on Zoey Clarke (Jane Levy – ‘Suburgatory’), a whip-smart computer coder forging her way in San Francisco. After an unusual event, Zoey, who always preferred podcasts over pop songs, suddenly starts to hear the innermost wants, thoughts and desires of the people around her – her family, co-workers and complete strangers – through popular songs. At first, she questions her own sanity, but after getting some guidance from her musically adept neighbour, Mo, and making a breakthrough with her ailing father, Zoey soon realizes this unwanted curse may just be an incredibly wonderful gift as she connects with the world like never before.

As we kick off season two, Zoey returns to the world after an extended time away and discovers that a lot has changed at work and in her personal life. Alongside Levy, the series stars Skylar Astin, Alex Newell, John Clarence Stewart, with Peter Gallagher and Mary Steenburgen. Lauren Graham appears as a special guest star this season due to the pandemic screwing up the schedule, and the filming clashing with her new leading role on Disney’s ‘The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers’.

Whilst the show was cancelled by NBC earlier in the year, we got the news recently that the Roku Channel had picked up the series for a holiday encore, the first Roku Original feature-length film, premiering on the free streaming service this Christmas. It’s unclear whether that could possibly lead to a further full season, but we live in hope!

The series is written and executive produced by Austin Winsberg (‘Jake In Progress’), alongside executive producers Paul Feig (Lionsgate’s ‘A Simple Favor’, ‘Bridesmaids’) via Feigco Entertainment, Jessie Henderson, Eric and Kim Tannenbaum (‘Two and a Half Men’) via The Tannenbaum Company, and Polygram’s David Blackman (‘Flatliners’) and Daniel Inkeles (‘It’s Complicated’). Emmy award-winning Richard Shepard (‘Ugly Betty’) directed and executive produced the pilot. The series is produced by Lionsgate and Universal Television in association with the Tannenbaum Company, Feigco Entertainment and Universal Music Group.

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist’ Season 2 premieres Monday, 27th September 2021 at 10pm on E4.
