‘Law & Order’: Jeffrey Donovan To Star In Revival Series For NBC

NBC has found their leading man for the upcoming 21st Season revival of Law & Order as its revealed ‘Burn Notice’ star Jeffrey Donovan has been cast on the drama.

The Emmy-winning series from Dick Wolf is a blended police procedural and courtroom drama with a two-part approach: The first half focused on NYPD homicide detectives investigating a crime – often derived from a real-life headline – and apprehending a suspect. The second half took place in the courtroom, with the district attorney prosecuting the defendant

Donovan will play a new NYPD detective character on the show, which is also expected to have a number of old hands returning alongside other new faces. Sam Waterson (‘The Newsroom’, ‘Grace & Frankie’), who played Jack McCoy for 16 Seasons is believed to be in talks with the producers, and Anthony Anderson (‘Black-ish’), who played Junior Detective Kevin Bernard for the last three seasons, confirmed last month that he had been “in conversation” with Dick Wolf.

Jeffrey Donovan is probably best known for playing Michael Westen on Matt Nix’s wonderfully fun action-drama ‘Burn Notice’ for 7 Seasons. He since when on to star in Hulu drama ‘Shut Eye’, and had a recurring role on Season 2 of hit series ‘Fargo’. He has also appeared in a number of films including Noah Hawley’s sci-fi ‘Lucy in the Sky’ with Natalie Portman and Jon Hamm, Guy Richie’s ‘Wrath of Man’ with Jason Statham, and can next be seen in Ric Roman Waugh’s sports-drama ‘National Champions’ opposite J. K. Simmons.

Wolf will executive produce the new season, with longtime collaborator Rick Eid (‘Law & Order’, ‘Law & Order: SVU’, ‘FBI’, ‘Chicago P.D.’) taking the reins as writer and showrunner. Wolf Entertainment’s Arthur Forney and Peter Jankowski also exec produce with Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, producing the show in association with Wolf Entertainment.

No premiere date has been set for Law & Order Season 21, but it will air on NBC in the USA. We don’t technically know where it’ll land in the UK, however, I’d be very surprised if it airs anywhere other than Sky Witness. We’ll let you know when we hear more!
