Disney+/Marvel: ‘Echo’, ‘Agatha: House of Harkness’ Series Ordered, ‘What If…?’ Renewed, New ‘Spider-man’ & ‘X-Men’ Animated Series & More!

Disney+ just announced a stack of upcoming content for Marvel, some we knew about, some we did not, but there will be plenty to keep comic book fans happy!

If you want to see a preview of ‘Hawkeye’, ‘Moon Knight’, ‘She-Hulk’ and ‘Ms. Marvel’, they will be dropping a “Special Look” trailer over on Disney+ right now!

First up, two new live-action spin-off series. The first is ‘Agatha: House of Harkness’, which sees Kathryn Hahn reprise her scene-stealing character from ‘WandaVision’ in her own show. The series is described as a “dark comedy”, and sees‘WandaVision’ head writer Jac Schaeffer return, and also exec produce.

The second spin-off is ‘Echo’, which will star Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez, a character who will be introduced in the upcoming ‘Hawkeye’ series. Maya Lopez, aka Echo, is a deaf Native American character who can perfectly copy another person’s movements.

These join the other live-action series which we already knew about –  ‘Secret Invasion’, which see Samuel L. Jackson reprises his role as Nick Fury alongside Ben Mendelsohn as Skrull Talos which is based around the famous comic book run which revealed the shape-shifters had been infiltrating Earth for years; ‘Ironheart’, which stars Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, a young, genius inventor who creates the most advanced suit of armour since Iron Man; ‘Moon Knight’, which sees Oscar Isaac as the complex vigilante who suffers from a dissociative identity disorder;  ‘She-Hulk’, a new comedy series which stars Tatiana Maslany as She-Hulk/Jennifer Walters, a lawyer who specializes in superhuman-oriented legal cases; And ‘Ms. Marvel’, which sees Iman Vellani star as Kamala Khan, a 16-year-old with an affinity for superheroes, particularly Captain Marvel, who gets superpowers like the heroes she’s always looked up to – the series was slated to land in early 2022 but has now been bumped back to Autumn 2022, presumably due to them shifting the movie slate around; There is also the ‘The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special’ coming…

On the animated side of things, ‘What If…?’ has officially been renewed for Season 2. After enlisting the Guardians of the Multiverse to stop Infinity Ultron, The Watcher returns in Season 2 of What If…? to meet new heroes and explore more strange new worlds. Directed by Bryan Andrews with AC Bradley serving as head writer.

Two new animated series include ‘Spider-Man: Freshman Year’ which follows Peter Parker on his way to becoming Spider-Man, harkening back to the character’s comic book roots. Jeff Trammel serves as head writer; And ‘Marvel Zombies’, which re-imagines the Marvel universe as a new generation of heroes battle against an ever-spreading zombie scourge, which is directed by Bryan Andrews.

Also one exciting old/new animated show… The much-beloved ‘X-Men ‘97‘ animated series is getting a new season that explores new stories in the iconic ‘90s timeline of the original series. Beau DeMayo is set as head writer.

They join the previously announced animated series ‘I Am Groot’, a series of original shorts directed by Kirsten Lepore, exploring Baby Groot’s glory days growing up, and getting into trouble, among the stars.

We don’t have exact dates for any of these yet, but ‘Hawkeye‘, which is the next Marvel show to land, premieres on Wednesday, 24th November 2021 on Disney+ worldwide.
