FX Heads Back To ‘Fargo’ As Drama Renewed For Season 5

FX is heading back to Fargo as the US broadcast renews the anthology series for Season 5. Although, this time, they are not going back as far as they have previously…

An original adaptation of the Academy Award-winning feature film, each season of ‘Fargo’ features an all-new “true crime” story and follows a new case and new characters, all entrenched in the trademark humour, murder and “Minnesota nice” that made the film an enduring classic.

Whilst they haven’t released much about what will happen in season five, FX did tease that it will more contemporary than previous iterations. The drama will take place in 2019 and ask the questions “when is a kidnapping not a kidnapping”, and “what if your wife isn’t yours?” So make of that what you will!

“Noah and Warren have delighted and inspired fans through four brilliant chapters of Fargo and we’re thrilled to announce with our partners at MGM a new chapter of what has become one of TV’s best and most acclaimed series,” commented FX Entertainment President Eric Schrier.

Michael Wright, President of Scripted Television at MGM adds “Noah Hawley is a masterful storyteller who has successfully created four wholly original seasons of one of the most brilliant series on television. We cannot wait to see his vision for season five come to life with our partners at FX.”

Fargo is produced by MGM Television and FX Productions, with MGM Television serving as the lead studio and MGM distributing the series internationally (hence the reason it airs on Channel 4 in the UK, and not on Disney+). Creator Noah Hawley serves as EP/writer/director. Warren Littlefield (The Handmaid’s Tale, The Old Man, Dopesick) also exec produces alongside Joel and Ethan Coen, and Steve Stark (Vikings: Valhalla, Wednesday) of Toluca Pictures.

Fargo‘ Season 5 does not have a premiere date yet, but if you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add it via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
