Will the Byrde Family Casino Survive In Ozark 4?
Out of the hundreds of original series that Netflix has aired over the years, Ozark is one of the most thrilling, keeping fans on the edge of their seats since season one.
We’ve all watched with bated breath as the story of the Byrde family has gradually unfolded, and we have learned the real reason why Marty Byrde, played by Jason Bateman, relocated to Missouri with his wife and children.
Season 3 was a white-knuckle ride from start to finish. We found out that this seemingly normal family were anything but ordinary as they established their riverboat casino business to launder money for the Mexican drug cartel, the Navarro.
With the much anticipated fourth and final series of Ozark now being aired on Netflix (don’t worry – no spoilers here), fans of the dark and suspenseful drama (although it also has much humour) will find out whether Marty, Wendy and their children will be able to make it out of the money laundering business in one piece.
As you probably already know, many films and television shows focus on gambling and their focus on casinos, in particular, seems to be all about promoting the “glitz and glamour” that is so widely associated with this form of entertainment.
Ozark, however, takes a totally different approach to casinos and shows viewers a seedier side of casino life, including the effort that was involved for the Byrde family to obtain the licence to run the establishment in the first place. It then went on to reveal how Marty and his family use their floating casino, called the Missouri Belle, to launder the money for the Navarro cartel.
We last saw the riverboat casino in full swing, offering slots and table games like blackjack, roulette and poker. The casino games are fairly easy to follow for TV viewers, but you can brush up on how to play poker before settling down to watch the hit series.
Whether you are an avid gambler or more of a general fan of crime thriller TV shows, you were no doubt eagerly anticipating Ozark season four as much as the rest of us.
With the premiere of Ozark Season 4 well underway, global audiences still have plenty of burning questions regarding the fate of the Byrde family. Without a doubt, the highly successful Netflix crime drama has continued to up the ante, which is incredible to believe was possible when you consider that in the opening episode of Season 1, Marty was seen “hog-tied” whilst his business partner Bruce came to a rather “sticky” end when he was dissolved in a vat of acid.
Season 3 saw the Byrdes in seemingly deep trouble with the Navarro cartel thanks to their attorney, Helen Pierce. She managed to get her name on the gaming licence, putting herself in a good position to take over the riverboat casino and put the wheels in motion for Omar Navarro, her boss, to kill the entire Byrde family.
However, in true Netflix style, the rivalry that the Byrdes had built up against Helen Pierce saw her plans fall flat when they turned the tables on her and informed the FBI that there was a rival drug cartel to Navarro’s. This earned Marty and Wendy the trust of the FBI, and as such, instead of killing the Byrde family, Navarro shoots his attorney, Helen Pierce, instead!
Season four should make for interesting viewing of the award-winning show, which picks up directly after the events of Season three. Considering the precarious position the Byrdes find themselves as they head into Season four, at this stage, it looks like the money-laundering business and Marty and Wendy’s riverboat casino may just survive… for the time being.
That said, working in the money-laundering niche certainly doesn’t bode well for anyone and dealing with hitmen, drug dealers and the FBI each day makes you wonder how the fourth and final season will play out.
In all honesty, there seems little reason to believe that either Marty or Wendy can survive working for the drug cartel in the long term. We shall see which way the story goes and whether there is a light at the end of the tunnel for the Byrde family as Season 4 progresses.
Ozark, however, has given us so many twists and turns following the escapades of the Byrde family so far; we know that we shouldn’t really take anything for granted. Watch this space!
