‘Inside No. 9’ Season 7 Gets April Premiere Date On BBC Two

The wonderfully weird Inside No. 9 will return for Season 7 the April the BBC has announced.

‘Inside No. 9’ is an anthology of darkly comic twisted tales by Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith, each one taking place behind a door marked “number 9”. Whether it’s a grand country house where a game of “sardines” leads to some chilling revelations in a wardrobe, or the flat of an apparently happy primary school teacher who becomes the victim of a good deed, these unpredictable tales feature high comedy and horror by turns.

In the opening episodes, titled “Merrily, Merrily”, Lawrence (Shearsmith) has arranged a special reunion on a boat for his old university friends. As they strike out across the remote lake, their conversation takes them into troubled waters.

Alongside Pemberton and Shearsmith, the actors headlining series seven are Daniel Mays (‘Line of Duty’, ‘Good Omens’), Jason Isaacs (‘Harry Potter’, ‘The OA’), Sophie Okonedo (‘The Escape Artist’, ‘Britannia’), Jessica Hynes (‘There She Goes’, ‘W1A’), Diane Morgan (‘Mandy’, ‘Motherland’), Daisy Haggard (‘Back To Life’, ‘Breeders’), Annette Badland (‘EastEnders’, ‘Doctor Who’), Siobhan Redmond (‘The Replacement’, ‘Unforgotten’) and Ron Cook (‘Hot Fuzz’, ‘The Salisbury Poisonings’). They have also roped in their old ‘The League of Gentlemen’ co-creator and castmate Mark Gatiss (‘Sherlock’, ‘Dracula’) for an episode.

Since its launch in 2014, Inside No. 9 has received widespread critical acclaim and has won an enviable étagère of awards, including the comedy prize at the 2016 Rose d’Or, two RTS Awards and two BAFTA TV Craft Awards (including Comedy Writing), South Bank Show and Writers’ Guild awards. In addition to this, Steve Pemberton won the Best Male Performance in a Comedy Programme at the 2019 BAFTA TV Awards and the series won Best Scripted Comedy at the 2021 BAFTA TV Awards.

‘Inside No. 9’ is a BBC Studios Comedy Production created and written by Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton. The Executive Producers are Josh Cole (‘Good Omens’, ‘Sally4Ever’, ‘Crashing’) and Adam Tandy (‘The Thick Of It’, ‘Detectorists’). The Producer is Kim Crowther (‘Midsomer Murders’, ‘The Worst Witch’). The Commissioning Editor for the BBC is Gregor Sharp.

Inside No. 9‘ Season 7 will premiere Wednesday, 20th April 2022 at 10pm on BBC Two and iPlayer.
