The CW Cancels ‘Naomi’, ‘Charmed’, ‘Roswell New Mexico’, ‘4400’, ‘Dynasty’

Okay… Who fed The CW after midnight?! The formally “fluffy” Mogwai-like network which renewed everything has seemingly transformed into a murderous Gremlin this evening as it cuts down six (UPDATE: make that seven…) of its series!

First to hit the floor is the freshman DC series, Naomi, which joins the previously cancelled ‘Batwoman‘ and ‘Legends Of Tomorrow’. The reboot of Charmed seems to have lost its, erm, charm… for the network, and is cancelled after four seasons. The other reboots also faired badly, with Roswell, New Mexico cancelled after four seasons, 4400 reboot cancelled after one season, and Dynasty after five seasons. Drama In the Dark also failed to avoid the axe, getting canned after four seasons. UPDATE: Legacies has now also joined the chopping block, ending after four seasons.

For those of you wondering what has turned the “happy happy joy joy” world of The CW into a desolate wasteland, it likely has something to do with the fact the network is up for sale. Warner Bros Discovery and Paramount, who co-own the network, are looking to sell it off to someone, which has rather changed the dynamic of things. The network itself has never made a profit directly for either company. Where they do make money is by selling the shows made for the network onto domestic streaming services (like Netflix) and to broadcasters abroad. Now both companies have their own streaming services to use as shop windows, The CW has become somewhat surplus to requirements, hence, the sale, and the mass cull of programming.

They did add one renewal today, although it isn’t a show which airs in the UK – The spin-off series ‘All American: Homecoming’. That will join the previously renewed parent show ‘All American‘, alongside ‘The Flash‘, ‘Superman & Lois‘, and ‘Riverdale‘, ‘Walker‘, ‘Kung Fu‘,  and ‘Nancy Drew‘.

Out of the axed shows, ‘Charmed‘ aired on E4 (when they remember to put it on…), ‘Roswell, New Mexico‘ aired on ITV2, and ‘Dynasty‘ was on Netflix. The other shows cancelled today did not have a UK broadcaster.
