Top 5 Sports Series Worth Binge Watching

For our list of the top 5 TV series that revolve around sport, we looked into many scripted series. Some of the series on the list revolve around football and basketball, while others revolve around tennis and other sports. Either way, regardless of your preferences, the sports series featured below will keep you entertained for hours and days. The list includes The English Game, Friday Night Lights, Ted Lasso, and The League.

The English Game

If you want to learn more about the history of football, The English Game, produced by Netflix, is one of the best options to get started. If you are looking forward to keeping up with the latest football scores, click on the link and remain well-informed. Back to The English Game, this is a mini-series with only six episodes.

The series stars Edward Holcroft, Kevin Guthrie, Niamh Walsh, Charlotte Hope, Ben Batt, James Harkness, and Craig Parkinson. It focuses on the history and invention of football, and as we all know, football was first played in England. The series also explores the tremendous popularity of football shortly after the sport’s modern rules were invented. If you are into sports and history, The English Game is a perfect match.

Friday Night Lights

Second, on our list of the best sports TV series, we have Friday Night Lights which follows one of the best high school American football teams, the Dillon Panthers. Kyle Chandler, who plays Eric Taylor, is the team’s coach. The series also stars Connie Britton, Zach Gilford, Aimee Teegarden, Jesse Plemons, Taylor Kitsch, and Brad Leland.

It should be noted that the series took inspiration from H.G. Bissinger’s book titled Friday Night Lights A Town, a Team, and a Dream. In 2004, the book became a movie, while two years later, the first season of the Friday Night Lights series was released.

Ted Lasso

Ted Lasso is another great sports TV series. It follows the story of Ted Lasso, coach for a smaller American football college team. In the first episode of the series, Ted Lasso, played by Jason Sudeikis, travels to the United Kingdom to coach AFC Richmond.

At the time, AFC Richmond is in big trouble, and Ted is set to make things right for the team. However, it will not be easy, and a lot of drama on and off the field unfolds. Much more happens as well since Ted is not familiar with the sport at all. He is also very stubborn in his opinions and thoughts to adapt to the team.

The show was made by Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein, a team that’s since gone on to further accomplishments following their Emmy Award wins.

The League

The League is another sports TV series that is binge-watching-worthy. Unlike other television shows on this list, The League is more of a comedy than a drama. It tells a story of a group of close-knit friends who play fantasy football. They are not your typical fantasy football fans, as the league is all they care about.

The series stars Mark Duplass, Katie Aselton, Jon Lajoie, Nick Kroll, and Paul Scheer. The first season of the series was released in October 2009, and it aired for seven seasons until December 2015. Other television shows that revolve around sport and definitely deserve your attention are Aaron Sorkin’s Sports Nighty. You can watch on Amazon Prime, Glow, which is available on Netflix. All American, which is also available on Netflix, Cobra Kai, Kingdom available on Peacock, and Winning Time The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, you can watch on HBO Max.
