With ‘The Vampire Diaries’ franchise coming to a close (at least for now), exec producer Julie Plec has hopped US networks for her new vampire series, Vampire Academy, based on Richelle Mead’s internationally bestselling novels, which premieres this September.

Produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group and from executive producers Julie Plec (The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Legacies) and Marguerite MacIntyre (The Vampire Diaries) comes Peacock Original ‘Vampire Academy’, a story of friendship, romance and danger. St. Vladmir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school — it’s a hidden place where vampire royals are educated and half-human teens train to protect them from the savage ‘Strigoi’ vampires who would like to see them destroyed.

In a world of privilege and glamour, two young women’s friendship transcends their strikingly different classes as they prepare to complete their education and enter vampire society. One as a powerful Royal, the other a half-vampire Guardian trained to protect against the savage “Strigoi” who threaten to tear their society apart. That is, if Royal infighting doesn’t do the job first

Just to avoid any confusion, this series has no connection to ‘The Vampire Diaries’ universe. In fact, it was a book Plec had her eye on since the early 2000s, well before she began her work on the various CW shows. “When I signed my new deal with Universal Television, they asked what project I had always been dying to make and my immediate answer was ‘Vampire Academy,’” Plec commented.

Directed by Bille Woodruff (first episode), Luis Prieto, Jesse Warn, Erica Dunton, Geoff Shotz and Julie Plec, and written by Richelle Mead, ‘Vampire Academy’ stars Sisi Stringer (Mortal Kombat), Daniela Nieves (Snowfall), Kieron Moore (Sex Education), Andre Dae Kim (Locke & Key), J. August Richards (Angel, Agents of Shield), Anita-Joy Uwajeh (Lucky Man), Mia Mckenna-Bruce (Persuasion), Rhian Blundell (Nobody Girl), Jonetta Kaiser (Tales) and Andrew Liner (Grown-ish).

The first four episodes of ‘Vampire Academy‘ are available on Friday, 16th September 2022 on Peacock UK exclusively on Sky and NOW, with new episodes dropping weekly. The drama airs Sept 15th on Peacock USA.
