‘The Boys’: Jeffrey Dean Morgan Joins Season 4

If there is one actor you’d think would be a perfect fit for The Boys, it would be Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and now that dream is a reality as it’s announced the ‘Supernatural’ and ‘Walking Dead’ start will join in the mayhem of Season 4.

‘The Boys’ is a fun and irreverent take on what happens when superheroes—who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians, and as revered as gods—abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. Intent on stopping the corrupt superheroes, The Boys, a group of vigilantes, continue their heroic quest to expose the truth about The Seven and Vought—the multibillion-dollar conglomerate that manages the superheroes and covers up their dirty secrets. It’s the seemingly powerless against the super-powerful.

Coming on to ‘The Boys’ will reunite Morgan with ‘Supernatural’ creator Eric Kripke who is showrunner on the comic book series. Apparently, both sides had been desperate to figure out a way of getting Morgan on the show. Morgan is a “superfan” of the series, and Kripke had been pushing to find some way of including him as far back as season two. Morgan joins ‘The Boys’ in a recurring guest star role, although exact details regarding his character remain under wraps.

The biggest issue up until now has been figuring out a schedule which worked. Morgan has just finished a run as Negan on ‘The Walking Dead’ (returning to screens for the last time this October.) However, he is also reprising the role alongside Lauren Cohan’s Maggie in a spin-off series. On a side note: it was also announced today that the spin-off has been renamed from ‘Isle Of The Dead’ to The Walking Dead: Dead City. Thankfully, it seems they have found a way to slot in some filming for ‘The Boys’ around his schedule for the new drama.

Morgan previous worked with Kripke on ‘Supernatural’ where he played John Winchester, father to Sam and Dean. ‘The Boys’ has become a bit of reunion for the ‘Supernatural’ cast with Jensen Ackles taking up the role of “Soldier Boy” last season, and Jim Beaver (who played Bobby Singer) as “Robert ‘Dakota Bob’ Singer” (yes, they did name the character in tribute to ‘Supernatural’!)

In addition to the main show, ‘The Boys’ franchise also now includes an eight-episode anthology animated series, ‘The Boys Presents: Diabolical’, now streaming on Prime Video, as well as the upcoming Gen V spin-off, set at America’s only college exclusively for young-adult superheroes.

The Boys is based on The New York Times best-selling comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, who also serve as executive producers, and developed by executive producer and showrunner Eric Kripke. Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Phil Sgriccia, Craig Rosenberg, Ken F. Levin, Jason Netter, Paul Grellong, David Reed, Meredith Glynn, and Michaela Starr also serve as executive producers. The Boys is produced by Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television Studios, with Kripke Enterprises, Original Film, and Point Grey Pictures.

The Boys‘ Seasons 1 to 3 can be watched on Prime Video right now. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when they get a UK premiere date.
