MCM Comic-Con London October 2022 Round-Up – Cosplay Photos, Videos & Special Guests!

For the second time this year, MCM Comic-Con returned to London to put on an epic display of geekiness at the ExCeL Centre, drawing comic fans, cosplayers, and people from all across the country to the capital.

If you’ve never been to MCM Comic-Con London before, the three-day celebration takes place at London’s ExCeL Exhibition Centre and is filled with everything a geek could wish for. There are guests from tv, film and comic book, alongside piles of geeky merchandise, video games, comic books, and lots of stunning cosplay.

For many, the draw of MCM is less to do with the guest and more to do with the event itself. This is evident in the fact that tickets often sell out before any big-name stars have been announced. People love to come and hang out with like-minded folk. Whether you’re into cosplay, anime, indie comics, or games, you can usually find a friendly group to geek out with. MCM events are some of the friendliest places in the world where you can be yourself, whatever that may be. You would be hard-pressed to find a more tolerant, diverse, and inclusive environment to be in.

To give you some idea of the size and scope of MCM London, here is a walkthrough video from our friends over at Comic-Con News, to give you just a taste of the show.

The Guests

MCM brought an impressive selection of guests to the October show. From our side of things, we’re never entirely sure what we’re going to get when arrive to cover Comic-Con. Not every guest has time to be interviewed due to panels, photoshoots and meeting fans. However, this time around we got some great exclusive content as a number of new films and tv series brought along their cast and creators to promote their projects. We also covered a selection of the main stage panels at the show, all of which you can find below.

Michael Sheen Panel Clips From MCM Comic-Con London

The first panel clips come from Welsh acting legend, Michael Sheen. Sheen is the star of films such as ‘The Twilight Saga: New Moon’, ‘The Damned United’, ‘The Queen’, and ‘Frost/Nixon’, along with tv series such as ‘Staged’, ‘Good Omens’, ‘Masters Of Sex’ and ‘Prodigal Son’.

In the panel, he discusses a wide range of topics from getting started in acting, to not being understood because of his accent, his favourite roles, and much more. He also talks about the “bromance” with David Tennant… along with (sort of) dishing the dirt on Tennant’s bad habits.

We aren’t allowed to upload the panels in full, due to MCM’s owners, Reedpop, selling virtual tickets to various panels across all their Comic-Cons (which is actually a pretty sweet deal!). However, you can view the 15 clips from the Michael Sheen panel in the YouTube playlist above.

The Sandman Panel Clips With Tom Sturridge & Mason Alexander Park From MCM Comic-Con London

The next panel we have was for Netflix’s wonder series, The Sandman, which has recently been renewed for a second season. This began with Mason Alexander Park (aka Desire), who was later joined by Tom Sturridge (aka Dream/Morpheus), who was running a bit late!

Based on the beloved award-winning DC comic series written by Neil Gaiman, the series stars Tom Sturridge, as The Sandman, aka Dream, aka Morpheus, Master of Dreams, who gives shape to all of our deepest fears and fantasies. Mason Alexander Park plays Desire, Morpheus’ sibling and one of the seven Endless. The drama is developed and executive produced by Gaiman himself.

This wonderful panel had some beautiful and insightful answers from Mason and Tom, both of which are huge fans of Gaiman’s original comic book. There are also some wonderfully fun and funny moments too, as they discuss how they got their roles, the costumes, the diversity of the show, and what Dream and Desire would be like as flatmates!

There are 16 clips in ‘The Sandman’ Panel playlist above.

The Smallville Panel At MCM Comic-Con London With Tom Welling, Erica Durance & Laura Vandervoort

‘Smallville’ may have ended eleven years ago (yes, you are that old!), but that didn’t stop a huge number of fans from coming to see stars Tom Welling (Clark Kent), Erica Durance (Lois Lane) & Laura Vandervoort (Kara Zor-El) on the MCM Main Stage.

We’ve seen the Smallville’ guys interviewed on stage before at other Cons, and they are always fun to watch as they chat through their experiences on the show. From the costumes (which Laura hated!), to passing out in the flying wires, to favourite episodes and characters. They’re always worth watching.

There are 7 clips in the ‘Smallville’ Panel playlist above.

‘Prey for the Devil’ Interview With Colin Salmon From MCM Comic-Con

Moving away from the main stage, we also had the chance for some exclusive press interviews for various new tv shows and films. The first one is for the recently released film Prey for the Devil, starring Colin Salmon.

Sister Ann (Jacqueline Byers) believes she is answering a calling to be the first female exorcist… but who, or what, called her? In response to a global rise in demonic possessions, Ann seeks out a place at an exorcism school reopened by the Catholic Church. Until now these schools have only trained priests in the Rite of Exorcism – but a professor (Colin Salmon) recognizes Sister Ann’s gifts and agrees to train her. Thrust onto the spiritual frontline with fellow student Father Dante (Christian Navarro), Sister Ann finds herself in a battle for the soul of a young girl, who Sister Ann believes is possessed by the same demon that tormented her own mother years ago. Determined to root out the evil, Ann soon realizes the Devil has her right where he wants her.

‘We Are Not Alone’ Interview – Laurence Rickard, Ben Willbond & Declan Baxter From MCM Comic-Con London

The next interview was for the upcoming film ‘We Are Not Alone’, which is due to premiere on UKTV’s Dave later in November, featuring co-writers and stars Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond (‘Ghosts’, ‘Yonderland’), and lead actor Declan Baxter (‘Grantchester’, ‘Jerk’).

Set six weeks after the Gu’un aliens have invaded and completely conquered Earth, ‘We Are Not Alone’ explores the culture clash between humankind and its new masters, who are trying to make sense of a planet so confusing and idiotic that its inhabitants can’t even agree which side of the road to drive on.

The special stars Declan Baxter (‘Jerk’, ‘There She Goes’) as Stewart, the Gu’un’s official hapless human liaison who ends up saddled with alien Greggs (Joe Thomas – ‘The Inbetweeners’) for a housemate. Stewart must help the Gu’uns deliver their message to the masses and win favour with humankind, while also aiding the human resistance and managing his enduring crush on Elodie (Georgia May Foote – ‘Coronation Street’).

‘The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself’ Interview From MCM Comic-Con London

The press interview with the cast and crew of the Netflix series The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself, featuring writer Joe Barton (‘The Lazarus Project’, ‘Giri/Haji’), and director Colm McCarthy (‘Black Mirror’, ‘Doctor Who’), alongside cast members Jay Lycurgo (‘Titans’, ‘The Batman’, ‘I May Destroy You’), Nadia Parkes (‘Domina’, ‘Starstruck’), David Gyasi (‘Carnival Row’, ‘Troy: Fall of a City’), and Emilien Vekemans (‘Transferts’).

The series is a darkly humorous, romantic, roller-coaster ride of a young adult show. It’s a story about the indomitable will to survive and defy the odds. Sixteen-year-old Nathan (Lycurgo) is the illegitimate son of the world’s most dangerous witch. Fearing he will follow in his father’s footsteps, Nathan is constantly monitored. But as the boundaries between ‘good’ and ‘bad’ fray, Nathan – along with mischievous Annalise and charismatic Gabriel – will soon discover who he truly is.

‘Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’ Interview With John Francis Daley, Jonathan Goldstein & Jeremy Latcham From MCM Comic-Con London

It would be, I think, fair to say, Dungeons & Dragons has had a bit of a rough ride when it comes to film adaptations… ‘Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’ aims to flip that when it is released in March 2023, and from what we saw of the clips and trailer, it very much looks like it will manage it!

Firstly, they have hired two great screenwriters – John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein – the duo who brought you the wonderful ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’. Both of them are huge D&D fans, and it really shows in the screenplay! Whilst it retains the action you’d want from this sort of film, it doesn’t take itself to seriously either, and has a lot of humour to it. Just like a game of D&D can have as you and your friends come up with inventive ways to get out of sticky situations.

Secondly, the movie actually has a sizable budget, and thirdly, a decent cast. Starring in the movie are Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, and Hugh Grant.

‘Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’ brings the rich world and playful spirit of the legendary roleplaying game to the big screen in a hilarious and action-packed adventure. The film follows a charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers as they embark on an epic quest to retrieve a lost relic… But things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people.

In the interview above, we chatted with writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein alongside producer Jeremy Latcham (‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, ‘Iron-Man’) to get a bit more info on the upcoming film… And on a sidenote, if you’re work out why you recognise John Francis Daley, he is also an actor and played “Sweets” in ‘Bones’, and “Sam” in ‘Freaks and Geeks’!

Transformers: EarthSpark Interview With Alan Tudyk, Danny Pudi, Sydney Mikayla From MCM Comic-Con London

The last interview we have is with the cast and creators of the new Paramount+ & Nickelodeon animated series ‘Transformers: EarthSpark’ which premieres 14th November 2022 on the channel and streaming service. The interview featured Ant Ward (EP), Dale Malinowski (co-ep/writer), Sydney Mikayla (Robby Malto), Danny Pudi (Bumblebee), and Alan Tudyk (Optimus Prime).

‘Transformers: EarthSpark’ introduces a new generation of Transformers robots called Terrans – the first Transformers robots to be born on Earth – and together with the humans who welcome them in and care for them, they’ll redefine what it means to be a family.

The voice cast includes Sydney Mikayla (‘Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts’), Zion Broadnax (‘Day Shift’), Benny Latham (‘Cornerstones: Founding Voices of the Black Church’), Jon Jon Briones (‘Ratched’), Kathreen Khavari (‘Dead End: Paranormal Park’), Zeno Robinson (‘Big City Greens’), Danny Pudi (‘Community’), Alan Tudyk (‘Resident Alien’), Rory McCann (‘Game of Thrones’), Cissy Jones (‘The Owl House’) and Diedrich Bader (‘Better Things’).

Indie Comics

Due to the ridiculous number of panels and interviews over the weekend, I didn’t get a huge amount of time to go and check out the indie comics in Artist Alley in much detail. However, I did manage to swing by our old friend Jeremy at Subversive Comics, who has been hard at work on a new illustrated novella ‘Damnation’ in their ‘Metal Made Flesh’ universe. They also still have their amazing Mad Max-inspired ‘Bearlands’ series, and giant robot/alien book ‘Super Robot Mayhem’.

I also caught up with the folk at TPub who have a great and varied selection from the hugely popular ‘Twisted Dark’ series, to the 1920s set ‘Theatrics’, to twisted sci-fi ‘The Theory’. In addition they have a bunch of promotions for deals on their stuff, and you can even get some free digital comics from them!  Check them all out here.

The Cosplay

No Comic-Con would be complete without the cosplayers. Again, due to all the interviews and panels, I didn’t get quite as many photos as I normally would have, but here is a selection of some of the spectacular outfits I did capture!

If you are in any of the photos, thank you for posing, and if you want the high-res version of the pictures, just message me via the contact page, Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram and I’ll send them over.

I’ve also included some of my cosplay photo edits below, but I’m still working through them, so even if your unedited photo is here, make sure you subscribe to our Instagram feed, as a full-edit version may pop up!

In addition to the photos we took, our friends over at Comic-Con News so had some great videos of cosplayers you can see in the playlist below:
