‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’: 5th & Final Season Trailer Lands, Premiering April On Prime Video

by Dave Elliott

Prime Video has the trailer for the 5th & final season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which will return this April for one last time on the streaming service.

The series, from Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, stars Rachel Brosnahan as Miriam ‘Midge’ Maisel, a 1958 New York City woman, who discovers she has a talent for stand-up comedy.

Midge has been through a lot over the last four seasons. In Season 1 we saw Midge finding her feet on stage. Season 2 saw her climb up the comedy ladder, but the grind of being a comic began to take its toll, as she has to come clean to her family. In Season 3, Midge was finally getting somewhere, and had landed a tour with the famous star Shy Baldwin. Unfortunately, her decision to make a few jokes at Shy’s expense did not go down well with the singer’s no-nonsense manager, and he booted her from the tour. Season 4 saw her honing her act by taking a gig at a “gentlemen’s club” as the host, which gave her total creative freedom, but did not go down too well with her family. We ended with Midge and Lenny Bruce (Luke Kirby) finally taking things further than they had before…

After burning bridges and being cut from tour, Midge Maisel persisted through Season Four, rebuilding her career and reputation. The final moments of the season culminated with Midge leaving Carnegie Hall reinvigorated and ready to weather any blizzard. After an epiphany in front of The Gordon Ford Show’s snowy billboard, Midge is ready to “Go forward” and fight for her ascent to stardom – equipped with her quick wit and sharp tongue, and nothing else to lose.

As we head into Season 5, Midge finds herself closer than ever to the success she’s dreamed of, only to discover that closer than ever is still so far away.

Returning series regulars include Emmy-winner Rachel Brosnahan, four-time Emmy-winner Tony Shalhoub, two-time Emmy-winner Alex Borstein, Emmy-nominee Marin Hinkle, Michael Zegen, Kevin Pollak, and Caroline Aaron. The Emmy-winning Luke Kirby also returns in a recurring role.

Season 4 cast who have been upped to series regulars for the last season include Alfie Fuller as Susie’s assistant Dinah Rutledge, Jason Ralph as late-night booker Mike Carr, and Reid Scott as talk show host Gordon Ford. Other returning cast who will appear in guest roles include Kelly Bishop as matchmaker Benedetta, and Milo Ventimiglia as the mysterious “Handsome Man.”

‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’, comes from renowned creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and executive producer Daniel Palladino (‘Gilmore Girls’), and is written and directed by Sherman-Palladino and Palladino.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel‘ Season 5 premieres Friday, 14th April 2023 with three-episodes, with the rest of the nine-episode series airing weekly.
