The Resident Officially cancelled By FOX

FOX has finally confirmed the news which has been circling for a while. The Resident has been officially cancelled after 6 Seasons on the US network.

The series shone a light on the daily heroism of the US healthcare workers. The provocative medical drama followed the doctors and nurses at Chastain Memorial Hospital as they faced personal and professional challenges and fight for their patient’s health.

Rumours began circling last month that the drama would not be returning when one of the prop houses that supplied the show announced a major liquidation sale from a “network medical drama”, posting photos that eagle-eyed fans quickly identified as being from ‘The Resident’. News then leaked that the sets for the show had been taken down, which does not usually happen unless a series has ended.

To be fair to FOX, the series had lost a lot of viewers six seasons in. Overall, season six of the drama was down 35% from season one, but more significantly, down 69% from season one in the lucrative 18-49 demographic. Season six was also down 12% overall and 27% in the 18-49 demo from season five, which is a sizeable season-to-season drop. Couple that with the fact it is a show not made by FOX themselves, but by Disney/20th Television, and it’s extremely hard for the network to justify keeping it around.

‘The Resident’ starred Matt Czuchry, Jessica Lucas, Andrew McCarthy, Bruce Greenwood, Anuja Joshi and Manish Dayal. Over the course of its run, it has also featured a number of notable names including Emily VanCamp, Morris Chestnut, Jocko Sims, Jane Leeves, Corbin Bernsen, David Alan Grier and more.

The Resident‘ airs on Disney+ in the UK.
