‘Star Wars: Ahsoka’ Gets A Trailer, Premiering August On Disney+

Also, Sabine, Hera, Ezra and... Thrawn? Oh my!

by Dave Elliott

As Star Wars Celebration kicks off in London today, we’ve gotten our first big trailer from the event, and it’s for the upcoming series Star Wars: Ahsoka, which is set to premiere this August on Disney+.

Set after the fall of the Empire, ‘Ahsoka’ follows the former Jedi knight Ahsoka Tano, played by Rosario Dawson, as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.

In addition to Dawson, the trailer has also confirmed some of the rumoured castings for the show. ‘Ahsoka’ will also star Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla. And, although we only see the back of his clearly blue-coloured head in the trailer, and it isn’t confirmed in the press release, we’re pretty sure that is Lars Mikkelson as Thrawn, returning to play the character in live-action which he voiced in ‘Star Wars: Rebels’.

Other notable points in the trailer include a shot of ‘Rebels’ droid Chopper; A “live-action” Lothcat; Genevieve O’Reilly’s Mon Mothma; A direct nod to Timothy Zahn’s Legends novels with the line about Thrawn being “heir to the Empire”; Diana Lee Inosanto reprising her role as Morgan Elsbeth, who we last saw in ‘The Mandalorian’ season two, trying to hide the location of her employer, Thrawn; Ray Stevenson’s character, Baylan, who appears to be some sort of Sith, as he’s wielding a red lightsaber; Ivanna Sakhno as… someone… we don’t know who, but given she’s appears to be shooting at rebels and is bathed in red light, likely Sith or Sith-adjacent; A tiny holo of ‘Rebels’ Ezra, appearing for the first time in live-action, played by Eman Esfandi; Lastly, droid professor and master lightsaber smith, Huyang, again, voiced by David Tennant who voiced the role in ‘Rebels’.

The series is written by Dave Filoni, who executive produces alongside Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson, and Carrie Beck. Karen Gilchrist is co-executive producer.

Whilst they haven’t given an exact date, it has been confirmed ‘Star Wars: Ahsoka‘ will premiere in August 2023 on Disney+ worldwide. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
