TV Premiere Highlights Coming To Disney+ UK In May 2023

May on Disney+ brings a set of new and returning shows from across their brands, along with some new Original series, and some ‘Star Wars’ content (it is May the 4th after all!). There are a number of new dramas, a new non-Marvel comicbook adaptation, Ed Sheeran, and Muppets, along with a number of exclusive films and UK TV premieres! Here are the highlights from Disney+ UK in May 2023.

Disney+ Originals & UK Exclusive May 2023 Highlights

A Small Light – 2nd May 2023 (Limited Series)

Based on a true story, National Geographic’s A Small Light follows Miep Gies, a young, carefree secretary who hid Otto Frank and his family from the Nazis in WWII. For nearly two years, Miep and her husband Jan protected the Franks and others while she held down a day job, kept her marriage intact, and shouldered more responsibility than anyone could imagine. While millions are familiar with Anne Frank’s diary and her family’s life in the Secret Annex, this new series exposes the lesser-known side of the tale, and how one ordinary secretary showed extraordinary courage during one of the darkest moments in history.

Ed Sheeran: The Sum Of It All – 3rd May 2023 (Docuseries)

For the first time, global superstar Ed Sheeran opens the doors to provide a definitive and searingly honest view into his private life. Explorings the universal themes that inspire his music, this series follows Ed after he learns of life-changing news, revealing how he dealt with the most challenging period of his life. Featuring exclusive, never-before-seen personal archive footage, present-day authentic interviews with his wife and loved ones, and intimate performances in cinematic locations, each episode reveals a little more what Sheeran thinks of the world, of himself, and his music.

Rye Lane – 3rd May 2023 (Film)

Yas (Vivian Oparah) and Dom (David Jonsson), two twenty-somethings both reeling from bad break-ups, connect over the course of an eventful day in South London – helping each other deal with their nightmare exes, and potentially restoring their faith in romance.

Star Wars: Visions, Season 2 – 4th May 2023 (Series Boxset)

Building on the Emmy Award-nominated first run of ‘Star Wars: Visions’ in 2021, this season will feature nine new shorts from nine studios from around the world. The first season was mainly focused on anime, however, this second season will feature shorts that have unique animation styles from a variety of countries and cultures, depicting each filmmaker’s specific vision of the Star Wars galaxy.

Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures, Season 1 – 4th May 2023 (Series)

Set 200 years before “The Phantom Menace,” during the High Republic era, the animated series follows Jedi younglings as they study the ways of the Force, explore the galaxy, help citizens and creatures in need and learn valuable skills needed to become Jedi along the way.

The Muppets Mayhem – 10th May 2023 (Series Boxset)

After 45 years of rockin’ and rollin’, The Electric Mayhem embarks on an epic musical journey to finally record their first studio album. With the help of a driven young music exec, the endlessly coolMuppet rock band – featuring Dr. Teeth, Sgt. Floyd Pepper, Janice, Lips, Zoot, and Animal – must get their act together as they come face to face with the crazy, contemporary music scene in their quest to finally go platinum.

Not Dead Yet, Season 1 – 10th May 2023 (Series)

Nell Stevens (Gina Rodriguez – Jane The Virgin), a broke and newly single self-described disaster, works to restart the life and career she left behind 10 years ago. When she lands the only job she can find – writing obituaries – Nell starts getting life advice from an unlikely source. Adapted from Alexandra Potter’s book “Confessions of a 40-something F**k Up”

Crater – 12th May 2023 (Film)

“Crater” is the story of Caleb Channing (Russell-Bailey), who was raised on a lunar mining colony and is about to be permanently relocated to an idyllic faraway planet following the death of his father (Mescudi). But before leaving, to fulfil his dad’s last wish, he and his three best friends, Dylan (Barratt), Borney (Hong) and Marcus (Boyce), and a new arrival from Earth, Addison (Grace), hijack a rover for one final adventure on a journey to explore a mysterious crater.

White Men Can’t Jump – 19th May 2023 (Film)

From 20th Century Studios, the all-new comedy White Men Can’t Jump updates the iconic 1992 movie that first celebrated the streetball-hustling culture of Los Angeles. Multi-platinum rap superstar Jack Harlow makes his feature film debut as Jeremy, a former star whose injuries stalled his career, while Sinqua Walls stars as Kamal, a once-promising player who derailed his own future in the sport. Juggling tenuous relationships, financial pressures and serious internal struggles, the two hoopers—who are seemingly complete opposites —join forces to take one final shot at living out their dreams.

American Born Chinese, Season 1 – 24th May 2023 (Series)

Based on the graphic novel by Gene Luen Yang, American Born Chinese is a genre-hopping action comedy that tells the story of Jin Wang, an average teenager juggling the high school social scene with his home life. But when he meets a new foreign student on the first day of the school year, even more worlds collide as Jin is unwittingly entangled in a battle of Chinese mythological gods.

The Kardashians, Season 3 – 25th May 2023 (Series)

The cameras return as Kris, Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, Kendall and Kylie invite viewers back into their lives as they navigate motherhood, co-parenting, and building their own empires. Their bond will be tested and tensions arise, but as a family, they will stand together through the storm.

Abbott Elementary, Season 2b – 17th May 2023 (Returning Series)

‘Abbott Elementary’ is a workplace comedy following a group of dedicated, passionate teachers – and a slightly tone-deaf principal  – as they navigate the Philadelphia public school system. Despite the odds stacked against them, they are determined to help their students succeed in life, and though these incredible public servants may be outnumbered and underfunded, they love what they do – even if they don’t love the school district’s less-than-stellar attitude toward educating children.

The Chi, Season 5 – 17th May 2023 (Series)

This season on ‘The Chi’ delves deeply into the many joys and complications of Black love: relationships, children, career, community and self. Emmett (Jacob Latimore) and Tiff (Hannaha Hall) forge ahead as co-parents, while Tiff grows closer with Rob (Iman Shumpert). Kevin (Alex Hibbert) finds new love in an unexpected place, while Jake (Michael V. Epps) and Papa (Shamon Brown Jr.) try to resolve things with Jemma (Judae’a Brown) and Maisha (Genesis Denise Hale). New mom Kiesha (Birgundi Baker) works to build her life with baby Ronnie, while Nina (Tyla Abercrumbie) and Dre (Miriam A. Hyman) work at rebuilding their union as they support Lynae (Zara Primer). Jada (Yolonda Ross) assesses her life post-cancer and where Suede (Bernard Gilbert) fits, while Darnell (Rolando Boyce) considers the past for guidance on his future with Dom (La La Anthony). Roselyn’s (Kandi Burruss) new pet project places her at odds with Tracy (Tai Davis). Meanwhile, with a push from Douda (Curtiss Cook) and a helping hand from Shaad (Jason Weaver), Trig (Luke James) considers a political run that might help his city, but at what cost to him and his family?

The Clearing – 24th May 2023 (Series)

‘The Clearing’ is an eight-part psychological thriller based on the best-selling crime thriller ‘In The Clearing’ by author J.P. Pomare, inspired by the darkness of real-life cults in Australia and around the world. Filmed across Victoria, ‘The Clearing’ is an emotional and psychological thriller that follows the nightmares of a cult and a woman who’s forced to face the demons from her past in order to stop the kidnapping and coercion of innocent children in the future. The series burrows under the skin and inside the mind, blurring the lines between past and present, reality and nightmare in a truly unnerving way.

Chip ‘n’ Dale: Park Life, Season 2 – 24th May 2023 (Series)

‘Chip ‘n’ Dale: Park Life’ follows two tiny troublemakers, Chip and Dale, trying to live the good life in a big city park while having giant-sized, sky-high adventures. Nervous worrier Chip and laid-back dreamer Dale make the perfect odd couple: they’re best buddies and they drive each other nuts. In their perpetual pursuit of acorns, these ultimate underdogs are joined by Pluto, Butch and other iconic Disney characters as they face down bullies great and small.

Good Trouble, Season 5 – 31st May 2023 (Series)

‘Good Trouble’ returns for a fifth season with the 20-something residents of Los Angeles’ The Coterie. The roommates will face their toughest obstacles yet as they’re confronted with evolving relationship challenges and new career opportunities. Through highs and lows, romance and heartbreak, The Coterie crew will lean on each other while they navigate the next stage of adulthood.

Single Drunk Female, Season 2 – 31st May 2023 (Series)

With a year and a half of sobriety under her belt, Samantha Fink finally feels like she has a life worth celebrating. However, Sam quickly learns that sometimes life has other plans for her. Sam must figure out how to effect change where she can, sit in her discomfort when she can’t, and maybe even enjoy the ride.

Other Notable Additions

Outside of the various premieres above, there is also the Brad Pitt movie ‘Ad Astra’ dropping onto the service from 12th May, along with the film ‘A Royal Night Out’ landing on 5th May.
