‘9-1-1’ Moving To ABC & ‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ Renewed At FOX

Don’t expect any more crossovers in the ‘9-1-1’ universe, as US network FOX has shockingly decided not to renew its top-rated show. However, the main9-1-1 will continue over on ABC, with the spin-off, 9-1-1: Lone Star continuing on FOX. NOTE: For the UK, both shows will continue on Disney+ as normal.

‘9-1-1’ and ‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ explore the high-pressure experiences of first responders in California and Texas – including police officers, firefighters and dispatchers – who are thrust into the most frightening, shocking and heart-stopping situations. These emergency responders must try to balance saving those who are at their most vulnerable with solving the problems in their own lives.

‘9-1-1’ is currently FOX’s number one series on the network, however, both series are made by the Disney-owned 20th Television. That means FOX has to pay a lot of money to Disney to keep them on the air, but has no overseas or resale rights to the dramas. Add to that with the fact that both shows are expensive (fire and explosion special effects are not cheap!), plus the increasing salaries of the large cast, six seasons in, for the main ‘9-1-1’, and you can see FOX’s problem…  At around $10 million an episode, FOX just can’t make the numbers balance for them, so decided to let the drama go.

“It has been an honour to be the founding network of 9-1-1 and we are grateful to Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear, together with Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Oliver Stark, Aisha Hinds, Kenneth Choi, Ryan Guzman and the rest of the cast and crew, and 20th Television for delivering such an impactful series to Fox,” FOX said in a statement. “We wish them well after 9-1-1’s final Fox season concludes.”

From next season (Season 7), the main ‘9-1-1’ will air on the Disney-owned ABC network in the USA, whilst the spin-off, ‘9-1-1: Lone Star’, will continue on FOX with Season 5. So both shows are renewed, we’re just unlikely to see any crossovers again now they are on separate US networks. Both shows will continue to air on Disney+ in the UK, as they have for the last couple of seasons since moving from Sky.

“Thanks to the creative drive of Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear, as well as the talented cast, 9-1-1 has been one of the most defining and original dramas on network television over the last six seasons and we are honoured to bring it to the esteemed group of series on ABC,” adds Craig Erwich, president, Disney Television Group. “It’s a privilege to keep 9-1-1 in the family with 20th Television producing, and we look forward to telling more heart-racing and uplifting stories about these beloved characters on our air.”

The dramas are produced by 20th Television in association with Ryan Murphy Television and Brad Falchuk Teley-Vision. Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear are the creators, executive producers and writers of the series.

9-1-1‘ Season 6 is currently airing on Disney+ in the UK and FOX in the USA. ‘9-1-1: Lone Star‘ Season 4, is on a mid-season break in the UK, due to return later this year on Disney+, and currently airing on FOX in the USA. If you want to keep track of these or any other show, you can add it via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
