‘The Brokenwood Mysteries‘ returns for Season 9 this July on UKTV Drama the broadcaster has announced.
Often dubbed New Zealand’s answer to ‘Midsomer Murders’, the series follows police detectives Mike Shepherd (Neill Rea), Kristin Sims (Fern Sutherland) and Daniel Chalmers (Jarod Rawiri) as they solve often bizarre murders in the small, but deadly, town of Brokenwood in New Zealand.
The series is a binge-worthy, charming and addictive detective series perfect for the whole family. Featuring big characters and uniquely Kiwi stories, it’s filled with warm camaraderie and deadpan humour against the background of stunning small-town New Zealand.
As we begin season nine, a musical theatre performance reenacting Brokenwood’s history goes horrifically awry when the composer is electrocuted on stage. But was it murder or just an unfortunate accident?
Neill Rea (Scarfies, Legend of the Seeker, Go Girls) stars in the lead role of Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Shepherd while Fern Sutherland (The Almighty Johnsons) plays Detective Constable Kristin Sims.
‘The Brokenwood Mysteries’ is a TVNZ production with executive producers Kelly Martin, Sally Campbell, and Andrew Szusterman. The series airs on Acorn TV in the USA.
‘The Brokenwood Mysteries‘ Season 9 premieres Monday 24th July 2023 at 8pm on UKTV Drama. The entire season drops as a boxset on UKTV Play on the same date.
