In a classic bit of “drunk scheduling” from E4, despite repeatedly telling everyone they had “no plans” to air Young Sheldon Season 6, they have now scheduled the series for this July… Which is ultimately good news!

Growing up in East Texas is not easy for young Sheldon Cooper. Despite possessing an exceptional intellect for advanced mathematics and science, his abilities often prove inconsequential in a society dominated by the primacy of church and football… Meanwhile, Sheldon’s ordinary family must navigate their own path alongside him. George, his father, struggles to find his identity as both a high school football coach and a father to a son he struggles to comprehend. Mary, his mother, fiercely protects and nurtures her son in a town where he just doesn’t fit in. Georgie, Sheldon’s older brother, does his best in high school, but it’s difficult to be popular when you share classes with an eccentric younger sibling. Missy, Sheldon’s twin sister, occasionally harbours resentment towards the attention he receives, yet she remains the one person who can reliably offer him candid honesty. Lastly, there’s Meemaw, Sheldon’s beloved grandmother from Texas, known for her colourful language and fondness for alcohol, who wholeheartedly supports her grandson and his exceptional talents.

Iain Armitage stars as Sheldon, alongside Zoe Perry as Sheldon’s mother, Mary (Perry also being the real-life daughter of Laurie Metcalf, who played Mary in the main series.) Lance Barber stars as father George, whilst Montana Jordan plays older brother Georgie, and Raegan Revord rounds out the family as twin sister Missy.

As we return for season six, which opens with a double-bill, George Sr bails Meemaw and Georgie out of jail, Sheldon and Missy meet Mandy, whilst Mary feels unwelcome at church. In episode two, Sheldon and Missy try to help with the family’s finances, whilst Mary struggles to find her footing without the church.

Young Sheldon‘ Season 6 premieres Sunday, 16th July 2023 at 8pm with a double-bill.
