Prime Video’s ‘Fallout’ Adaptation From ‘Westworld’ Creators Gets April 2024 Premiere Date

Prime Video has announced the highly-anticipated adaptation of Bethesda’s Fallout video game, from acclaimed producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy’s Kilter Films (‘Westworld’), will premiere in April 2024 on the streaming service.

‘Fallout’ is set in an alt-history post-apocalyptic world where large numbers of the human race survived the nuclear apocalypse by holding up by sealing themselves into underground bunkers known as “Vaults”. In the various games, you usually play as one of the “Vault Dwellers” who has left the Vault for the first time to explore life on the outside… which is generally filled with mutated monsters, rad-infected humans, and bottle caps are the main currency! It also seems that the creators of the vaults, Vault-Tec, used some of these bunkers to conduct experiments on the occupants…

The TV series is not a direct adaptation but an original story based on ‘Fallout’ that will be part of the same canon as the games. It is set in a future post-apocalyptic Los Angeles.

Whilst we don’t yet know any of the characters, we do know a number of the cast. They include Ella Purnell (Yellowjackets), Walton Goggins (The Hateful Eight), Aaron Moten (Emancipation), Moisés Arias (The King of Staten Island), Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks), Sarita Choudhury (Homeland), Michael Emerson (Person of Interest), Leslie Uggams (Deadpool), Frances Turner (The Boys), Dave Register (Heightened), Zach Cherry (Severance), Johnny Pemberton (Ant-Man), Rodrigo Luzzi (Dead Ringers), Annabel O’Hagan (Law & Order: SVU)and Xelia Mendes-Jones (The Wheel of Time).

The world of Fallout is one where the future envisioned by Americans in the late 1940s explodes upon itself through a nuclear war in 2077. The magic of the Fallout world is the harshness of the wasteland set against the previous generation’s utopian idea of a better world through nuclear energy. It is serious and harsh in tone, yet sprinkled with moments of ironic humour and B-movie nuclear fantasies.

The Fallout games have achieved record-setting sales and received hundreds of awards, including dozens of Game of the Year awards, while its mobile game, Fallout Shelter, has been downloaded more than 170 million times.

Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Tomb Raider, Captain Marvel) and Graham Wagner (Portlandia, Silicon Valley, Baskets) are the executive producers, writers and co-showrunners. Nolan and Joy exec produce for Kilter Films under their Amazon overall deal, along with Athena Wickham. They are joined by Todd Howard for Bethesda Game Studios and James Altman for Bethesda Softworks. Amazon and Kilter Films produce in association with Bethesda Game Studios and Bethesda Softworks. Nolan directs the first three episodes of the series.

Fallout‘ Season 1 premieres Friday, 12th April 2024 on Prime Video worldwide.
