The Lazarus Project’ Season 2 Interviews With Paapa Essiedu, Charly Clive, Anjli Mohindra & Caroline Quentin

With The Lazarus Project Season 2 due to arrive Wednesday, 15th November 2023 at 9pm on Sky Max and streaming service NOW, we had the opportunity to sit down with some of the cast and talk about where we find their characters in the new season.

The brilliant time-bending BAFTA-winning drama from Joe Barton (Giri / Haji), is a timely and affecting exploration of the desire to take charge of your own fate. Season one introduced us to George (Paapa Essiedu) who woke up one day and found himself reliving a day from months ago. All of his recent milestones had been undone, including his success at work and his marriage to the love of his life Sarah (Charly Clive). Worst of all, he seemed to be the only one who’d noticed what had happened… That was until he met Archie (Anjli Mohindra), who recruited George for the Lazarus Project – a secret organisation that has harnessed the ability to turn back time every time the world is at threat of extinction.

If you need a bit of a recap of where we left things, a new singularity, created by an unknown group, had locked the world into a never-ending time loop that will ultimately end with the planet’s complete extinction. As we begin season two, the Lazarus team must race against time to find a solution before humanity is wiped out forever. George has been left in disgrace after betraying the organisation in the name of love, but is determined to redeem himself and win back the trust of his friends, colleagues, and the love of his life. But when he discovers that the cause he’s fighting is more sinister than it appears, George begins to suspect that the only person he can really trust is himself.

The first two cast members I caught up with were Pappa Essiedu (I May Destroy You, Gangs of London), who plays George, and Anjli Mohindra (Bodyguard, Vigil), who plays Lazarus Project agent, Archie. George is not in a great place, both physically and mentally, at the end of season one… Season two picks up only minutes from where we left off, with George having just shot Shiv (Rudi Dharmalingam – ‘Wakefield’), and desperately trying to save his life… Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your perspective!), they are stuck in a time loop, so that means things can be changed…

The second pair I caught up with was Charly Clive (Pure), who plays George’s girlfriend/ex-girlfriend, Sarah, and Caroline Quentin, who stars as “Wes”, the world-weary boss of The Lazarus Project. Sarah finds herself on a very different path this season, due to George having given her the serum which allows her to remember the time loops. As you might have guessed, that leads to Wes recruiting her to Lazarus… although she won’t be working with George, as his season one actions have him very much on the “outs” with Wes, Sarah, and the rest of the team… We chat about Sarah’s new role, what they’d like to see for their characters, and will Wes ever get to leave her office!

Season 2 sees Pappa Essiedu (I May Destroy You, Gangs of London), with Anjli Mohindra (Bodyguard, Vigil), Charly Clive (Pure), Vinette Robinson (Boiling Point), Rudi Dharmalingam (Wakefield), Caroline Quentin and Tom Burke (Strike) all reprising their roles. Joining the cast in the second series are Royce Pierreson (The Irregulars, The Witcher), Colin Salmon (Resident Evil, Limitless), Safia Oakley-Green (Sherwood), Lorne MacFayden (Vigil), Zoe Telford (Genius), Sam Troughton (The Outlaws) and James Atherton (Hollyoaks).

‘The Lazarus Project’ is produced by Urban Myth Films, in association with Sky Studios, and has been created and written by BAFTA-nominated Joe Barton (Giri / Haji). It was commissioned by Sky Studios for Sky Max. Paul Gilbert is the Commissioning Editor for Sky Studios. NBCUniversal Global Distribution handles international sales of the series on behalf of Sky Studios.

The Lazarus Project‘ Season 2 premieres Wednesday, 15th November 2023 at 9pm on Sky Max and streaming service NOW.
