‘Evil’ Cancelled With Season 4, But 4 Additional Episodes Added To Finish The Story

Evil to be banished

by Dave Elliott

Evil is set to be banished, as Paramount, who make the drama, announce the upcoming 4th Season will be its last. Whilst this is technically a cancellation, they have tagged on some additional episodes to allow the drama to have a proper conclusion.

‘Evil’ is a psychological mystery that examines the origins of evil along the dividing line between science and religion. The series focuses on a sceptical female psychologist who joins a priest-in-training and a contractor as they investigate the Church’s backlog of unexplained mysteries, including supposed miracles, demonic possessions, and hauntings. Their job is to assess if there is a logical explanation or if something truly supernatural is at work.

“Robert and Michelle King created a unique and deeply entertaining way of exploring the intersection of religion and science,” said Jeff Grossman, Executive Vice President, Programming, Paramount+. “We thank Robert, Michelle and the immensely talented cast and crew of Evil and are incredibly proud of their collective work on the series. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for these characters, in what is sure to be a nail-biting, wild ride of a final season.”

The series, which airs on UKTV’s Alibi channel in the UK, began in 2019 on CBS in the USA. Whilst it was extremely well-reviewed, it struggled to get a live audience, which is a problem when you’re trying to sell advertising on US network TV. This resulted in them shifting it over to Paramount+ from Season 3 instead where that is not an issue. However, it is still expensive to make, and Paramount is looking to cut costs, so it will end with Season 4. That season was filmed last year, however, they are returning next month to shoot four additional episodes which will allow a conclusion to the drama, rather than leaving it on a cliffhanger.

“We want to thank Paramount+ for giving us four bonus episodes to end Evil in the world in style,” added Robert and Michelle King, series co-creators, showrunners and executive producers of Evil. “We will miss this show and cast. In many ways, it was a dream project, but sadly evil will outlast Evil.”

The drama is created by Robert and Michelle King (The Good Wife, The Good Fight). ‘Evil’ is produced by CBS Studios in association with King Size Productions. Robert King, Michelle King, Liz Glotzer, Rockne S. O’Bannon and Nelson McCormick serve as executive producers. The series is distributed worldwide by ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group.

Evil’ will return on Paramount+ in the USA in May 2024 for the final season. It should then land at some point after that on UKTV’s Alibi in the UK, but we do not have a premiere date at the moment. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when they get a UK premiere date.
