ITVX has picked up the UK broadcast rights to ‘Safe Harbor‘ a high-octane action thriller set in the European drug trade from ‘Ozark’ creator Mark Williams, starring Alfie Allen, Charlie Murphy, Colm Meaney, Jack Gleeson & Martijn Lakemeier.
Inspired by true events, it follows gifted hacker Tobias (Alfie Allen – ‘Game Of Thrones’) and his ambitious best friend Marco (Martijn Lakemeier – ‘Maxima’), who are intent on cracking into the tech billionaires club. They are plucked from quiet obscurity and plunged headfirst into the chaos of organised crime when they cross paths with the Irish mob…
Leading the mob family’s operations in Holland are Sloane (Charlie Murphy – ‘The Capture’, ‘Happy Valley’) and her brother, Farrell (Jack Gleeson = ‘Game of Thrones’), who enlist Tobias’ and Marco’s services to hack into the security system of Rotterdam Harbour, Europe’s largest shipping port, to secure undetected deliveries of drug shipments.
‘Safe Harbor’ was originally commissioned by Dutch streaming service Videoland and Belgium streamer, Streamz. Due to it being written by Mark Williams, creator of Netflix’s critically acclaimed ‘Ozark’, the drama started to generate a lot of buzz in the international sales market, with ITV stepping in to buy the UK rights this week.
The series is made by Dutch indie production company Submarine (part of the Mediawan group), alongside Night Train Media, and William’s company Zero Gravity. Williams is the creator, writer, co-director and exec producer on the drama, based on an idea from Submarine’s Femke Wolting. Herbert L. Kloiber and James Copp are executive producers for Night Train Media. The series is financially supported by Creative Europe and the Netherlands Film Fund.
‘Safe Harbor‘ does not yet have an exact air date but is set to premiere in Spring 2025 on ITVX in the UK. Virgin Media has taken the rights in Ireland. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
