Netflix has fired ‘The Recruit‘, after it’s revealed the streamer has cancelled Alexi Hawley’s drama, led by Noah Centineo, after two seasons.
From the creator of ‘The Rookie’, and launching in 2022, ‘The Recruit’ introduced us to Owen Hendricks (Noah Centineo – ‘Black Adam’, ‘The Fosters’), a young CIA lawyer whose first week on the job was turned upside down when he discovers a threatening letter by former asset who planned to expose the agency unless they exonerate her of a serious crime. Owen quickly becomes entangled in a dangerous and often absurd world of power politics and mischievous players, as he travels the world in hopes of completing his assignment and making a mark at the CIA. The drama returned for season two in January 2025.
Colton Dunn (‘Superstore’), who played Owen’s colleague Lester Kitchens, revealed the cancellation on social media saying “The Recruit has been cancelled yall. Such a bummer. I’ll share some pics and fun memories on IG but just wanted you to hear it from me. Thanks if you watched. I’m AVAILABLE NOW! Hire me for your TV story!!”
We don’t yet have exact streaming figures for ‘The Recruit’ season two, however, it was sitting in second place on both Nielsen’s streaming charts and on the official Netflix streaming chart, so you’d think the numbers couldn’t have been all that bad. I would argue that is an achievement in itself, given there was a large (over two-years) gap between seasons one and two due to the writer and actor strikes. Clearly, whatever the streaming numbers were, they weren’t good enough for the Netflix bosses…
Season 2 of the drama Centineo as Hendricks, alongside Aarti Mann (Violet), Colton Dunn (Lester), Fivel Stewart (Hannah), Kristian Bruun (Janus), Kaylah Zander (Amelia), Angel Parker (Dawn) and Vondie Curtis-Hall (Walter). They were joined by Teo Yoo (Money Game, Past Lives), and Maddie Hasson (Impulse, The Finder).
Alexi Hawley served as Creator, Showrunner and Executive Producer, with Doug Liman, Gene Klein, David Bartis, Adam Ciralsky, Charlie Ebersol, and Julian Holmes also exec producing. Lionsgate Television was the studio.
‘The Recruit‘ Seasons 1 & 2 can be found on Netflix.
