Eric Stonestreet & Neil Patrick Harris Take Guest Roles In ‘Dexter: Resurrection’

by Dave Elliott

Dexter: Resurrection seems to have roped in half of Hollywood for the continuation of the serial killer’s story, as they announced the legendary Emmy & Tony winner Neil Patrick Harris, and Emmy-winning ‘Modern Family’ star Eric Stonestreet are the latest stars to take guest roles in the upcoming drama.

We still don’t have a plot description for ‘Dexter: Resurrection’, but it is a direct follow-on from Dexter: New Blood, set in the present day, with Michael C. Hall reprising his role as the title character. And if you watched the finale of ‘New Blood’, and you’re wondering “How is that possible?”, you need to watch the opening scene of the prequel spin-off, Dexter: Original Sin.

We don’t yet know who Harris will play exactly, other than the character’s name is apparently “Lowell”, and it will be a guest starring role. Stonestreet is also taking a guest-starring arc as “Al”, who is believed to be a Midwestern serial killer.

Harris and Stonestreet are the latest in a string of high-profile stars to join the drama including Peter Dinklage (‘Game Of Thrones’) who takes the series regular role of “Leon Prater”, a billionaire venture capitalist. To the world, Leon is a generous philanthropist, but behind his polished exterior lies dark intrigue; Uma Thurman (‘Kill Bill’) lands a series regular role as “Charley”, the Head of Security for Prater. A former Special Ops officer, Charley worked various high-level private security jobs before taking on her position as the resourceful and meticulous right-hand woman; And Krysten Ritter (‘Jessica Jones’, ‘Breaking Bad’), who takes a guest role as “Mia Lapierre”, a renowned sommelier who may be hiding a serial killer secret.

Other new cast includes Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine (‘The Lincoln Lawyer’) as “Blessing Kamara,” a rideshare driver who radiates unwavering optimism and a man devoted to his family and community; Kadia Saraf (‘Law & Order: SVU’) as Detective “Claudette Wallace,” a razor-sharp investigator known for her methodical precision and unrelenting focus; Dominic Fumusa (‘Nurse Jackie’) as Detective “Melvin Oliva,” Wallace’s partner at NYPD who is the only one that understands his quirky partner; And Emilia Suárez (‘Up Here’) as “Elsa Rivera,” Harrison Morgan’s vibrant and determined friend and co-worker at the Empire Hotel.

They join the previously announced cast from other ‘Dexter’ shows which includes David Zayas, reprising his role from the original series as Angel Batista, now Captain of Homicide of the Miami Metro; James Remar returns as Dex’s father, Harry from the original series; And Jack Alcott returns as Harrison, Dexter’s grown son, who first appeared in ‘Dexter: New Blood’.

‘Dexter: Resurrection’ is executive produced by Emmy nominee Clyde Phillips (DexterDexter: Original Sin, Nurse Jackie), who also returns to serve as showrunner, and produced by SHOWTIME Studios and Counterpart Studios. Michael C. Hall (Dexter, Six Feet Under) also serves as executive producer along with Scott Reynolds (Jessica Jones), Tony Hernandez (Emily in Paris) and Lilly Burns (Russian Doll), with Marcos Siega (Dexter: New Blood) serving as producing director. The series is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.

Dexter: Resurrection‘ started production in January, and is set to launch in the summer of 2025 on Paramount+ UK and Paramount+ with SHOWTIME in the USA.
