Hulu’s new ‘Prison Break’ series pilot from ‘Mayans M.C.’ and ‘The Outlaws’ co-creator Elgin James, has found four of its lead cast, and it’s something of a ‘Mayans’ reunion, with Clayton Cardenas and JR Bourne taking lead roles, along with Georgie Flores and Myles Bullock.
We don’t know much about this new iteration of ‘Prison Break’ at the moment, other than it will obviously feature a prison break… We do know it is not a reboot, but it is its own thing – so set in the same world as the original, but is unlikely to feature any of the original cast. We also now know a little bit about some of the new characters.
Clayton Cardenas (Mayans M.C., Mayor of Kingstown) plays “Ghost” a ruthlessly dangerous inmate at one of the deadliest prisons in America, and Myles Bullock (BMF, Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist) plays “Darius ‘Red’ Lewis”, another inmate at the prison. Georgie Flores (Dumplin, Famous in Love) portrays “Andrea”, one of the prison’s female cadets training to be a Corrections Officer, whilst JR Bourne (Mayans M.C., Teenwolf, Stargate: SG1) plays “Junior”, a mentally unstable lone survivor of a decades-old prison break that devastated the town.
The original series starred Wentworth Miller as Michael Scofield, and Dominic Purcell as his brother, Lincoln Burrows. Lincoln is sentenced to death for a crime he did not commit, so Michael, his genius little brother. devises an elaborate plot, which involves getting himself locked up, to help his brother escape the prison and clear his name. The original series ran for four seasons on Fox, from 2005 to 2009, followed by a revival “event series” in 2017, which pretty much wrapped Michael and Lincoln’s story.
Elgin James, who is best known for co-creating ‘Mayans M.C.’ alongside Kurt Sutter, and ‘The Outlaws’ alongside Stephen Merchant, will write and exec produce the pilot, with original series creator Paul Scheuring and the original series executive producers Dawn Olmstead, Marty Adelstein and Neal Moritz also exec producing. 20th Television will be the studio.
We should stress, Hulu has only ordered a pilot at this point, so it’s possible the new ‘Prison Break’ will not go to series. We’ll let you know when we hear more.
