Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for ‘The Thursday Murder Club‘, the hotly anticipated mystery-comedy film based on the bestselling novel by Richard Osman, premiering this August on the streaming service.
Directed by Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone), the film follows four sharp-minded retirees who trade tea and biscuits for murder investigations, solving cold cases as a quirky hobby… until a fresh corpse appears on their very doorstep.
The delightful, danger-filled tale introduces us to Elizabeth (Helen Mirren – The Queen, RED), Ron (Pierce Brosnan – GoldenEye, Mamma Mia!), Ibrahim (Ben Kingsley – Gandhi, Iron Man 3), and Joyce (Celia Imrie – The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Calendar Girls), a mismatched yet brilliant bunch of pensioners with a talent for amateur sleuthing. But when a local death turns out to be anything but natural, the group’s cosy crime-solving hobby becomes a real-life whodunit.
Joining the iconic central cast are Naomi Ackie (I Wanna Dance with Somebody), Daniel Mays (Line of Duty), Henry Lloyd-Hughes (The Irregulars), Tom Ellis (Lucifer), Jonathan Pryce (The Crown), David Tennant (Doctor Who), Paul Freeman (Raiders of the Lost Ark), Geoff Bell (His Dark Materials), Richard E. Grant (Can You Ever Forgive Me?), and Ingrid Oliver (Doctor Who).
The screenplay is penned by Katy Brand and Suzanne Heathcote, based on Osman’s international bestseller, which launched a book franchise and quickly became a fan favourite among readers of cosy crime fiction.
The Thursday Murder Club is the latest title produced through the partnership between Netflix and Amblin Entertainment, the studio founded by Steven Spielberg. It is produced by Jennifer Todd and Chris Columbus, with executive producers including Jo Burn, Richard Osman, Eleanor Columbus, Holly Bario, and Jeb Brody.
With its mix of mystery, humour, and a stellar British cast, the film looks set to be a charming addition to Netflix’s late summer line-up.
‘The Thursday Murder Club‘ premieres globally on Thursday, 28th August 2025, on Netflix worldwide.
