‘Creature Commandos’: James Gunn’s Animated DCU Series Sets July UK Premiere On Sky

by Dave Elliott

DC’s ‘Creature Commandos is ready to cause some chaos on this side of the Atlantic, as Sky has confirmed a July premiere for James Gunn’s edgy new animated series, which launches the first official chapter in the rebooted DC Universe.

Created by Gunn and based on DC Comics characters, ‘Creature Commandos’ follows a secret black ops team made up of incarcerated monsters pulled from Belle Reve Penitentiary. When Amanda Waller (played by Viola Davis) faces a violent invasion in Pokolistan but is no longer authorised to send in humans, she turns to a more expendable solution: monsters.

She appoints General Rick Flag Sr. (voiced by Frank Grillo) to lead the unit, with a mission to protect Princess Ilana Rostovic. His team includes The Bride, Dr. Phosphorus, Weasel, GI Robot, and Nina Mazursky, all dangerous and unpredictable in their own right.

The voice cast features Steve Agee (Peacemaker), Maria Bakalova (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3), Anya Chalotra (The Witcher), Zoe Chao (Party Down), Frank Grillo (Kingdom), Sean Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy), David Harbour (Stranger Things), Alan Tudyk (Resident Alien), Indira Varma (Obi-Wan Kenobi), and Viola Davis (The Suicide Squad).

‘Creature Commandos’ is written and executive-produced by James Gunn. It is produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation, with additional executive producers Peter Safran, Dean Lorey, and Sam Register, and Rick Morales serving as supervising producer. The series has already been renewed for Season 2.

Creature Commandos‘ premieres with two episodes on Tuesday, 8th July 2025 at 2am on Sky, with a repeat airing at 11pm that evening. While not confirmed, it is likely the full series will also be available via Sky On Demand and NOW.
