ITV has revealed the first-look images for upcoming six-part thriller ‘Coldwater‘, starring Andrew Lincoln (The Walking Dead, Teachers), which will air this autumn on ITV1, ITVX, STV, and STV Player.
Created, written, and executive produced by David Ireland (The Lovers, Ulster American, Cyprus Avenue), the series is produced by SISTER (Black Doves, Eric, Chernobyl). Direction duties are split between Lee Haven Jones (A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story, Passenger, Doctor Who), who helms the first three episodes, and Andrew Cumming (Shetland, Payback, Cold Feet), who takes on the latter half.
Set in the fictional Scottish village of Coldwater, the story follows John, played by Andrew Lincoln, a repressed stay-at-home dad facing a midlife identity crisis. After failing to intervene during a violent playground confrontation, John relocates his family from London to the rural sanctuary of Coldwater, hoping for a fresh start.
Upon arrival, John is befriended by next-door neighbour Tommy, played by Ewen Bremner (Trainspotting, The Rig), a charismatic and confident man who is deeply devoted to his wife Rebecca, the village vicar, portrayed by Eve Myles (Keeping Faith, Torchwood). Tommy leads the local all-male book group and quickly becomes a central figure in John’s life. However, John’s wife Fiona, played by Indira Varma (Game of Thrones, Luther), despises Tommy and suspects there is more to him than meets the eye.
When John’s long-repressed anger erupts with disastrous consequences, he becomes indebted to Tommy, not realising his new friend harbours horrifying secrets. As unsettling incidents escalate, John begins to question who Tommy really is, leading him into a dangerous web of influence and manipulation.
Executive producers include Chris Fry (Black Doves, Kaos, Landscapers), Alice Tyler (The Following Events Are Based on a Pack of Lies), Lydia Hampson (Cheat, Fleabag), Jane Featherstone (Black Doves, Chernobyl), David Ireland, and Andrew Lincoln, with Brian Coffey (Dinosaur, Our Ladies) producing. ITV Studios will handle international distribution.
