ITV has unveiled the official trailer for ‘Coldwater’, the dark new six-part psychological thriller starring Andrew Lincoln (The Walking Dead, Teachers), alongside confirming its September premiere on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player.
Created, written and executive produced by David Ireland (The Lovers, Ulster American, Cyprus Avenue), the series comes from SISTER, the production company behind Chernobyl, Eric and Black Doves. Direction duties are split between Lee Haven Jones (Doctor Who, Passenger) on the first three episodes, and Andrew Cumming (Shetland, Payback) on the latter half.
Set in the fictional Scottish village of Coldwater, the series follows John, a repressed stay-at-home dad played by Andrew Lincoln, who finds himself in the grip of a midlife crisis. After failing to intervene during a violent playground confrontation, he uproots his family from London to the seemingly idyllic rural sanctuary of Coldwater.
There, John is drawn into the orbit of his charismatic neighbour Tommy, portrayed by Ewen Bremner (Trainspotting, The Rig), who leads the local all-male book group and is devoted to his wife Rebecca, the village vicar, played by Eve Myles (Keeping Faith, Torchwood). But John’s wife Fiona, played by Indira Varma (Game of Thrones, Luther), sees something darker in Tommy and suspects he is not what he appears to be.
When John’s long-repressed anger finally boils over with disastrous consequences, he finds himself indebted to Tommy. What starts as friendship soon turns into manipulation as John is pulled deeper into Tommy’s unsettling world, forcing him to confront who his neighbour really is.
Executive producers include Chris Fry (Black Doves, Landscapers), Alice Tyler (The Following Events Are Based on a Pack of Lies), Lydia Hampson (Cheat, Fleabag), Jane Featherstone (Chernobyl, Black Doves), David Ireland, and Andrew Lincoln himself, with Brian Coffey (Dinosaur, Our Ladies) producing. ITV Studios handles international distribution.
