Sunny days are about to sweep the clouds away, as ‘Sesame Street’ makes its big streaming debut on Netflix this November with the show’s brand-new 56th season. Elmo, Cookie Monster, Abby Cadabby, Big Bird and the gang are packing up their songs, lessons, and endless cookies for a global rollout on the streamer, while still keeping their long-standing spot on PBS in the USA.
The new season is shaking things up with some fresh format changes, but don’t panic. Old favourites like Elmo’s World and Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck are sticking around. This time, Cookie isn’t just trucking snacks around, he’s opening a whole new Cookie Cart right on Sesame Street, while Abby invites us into her Fairy Garden, where magical critters are set to pop up.
Episodes are also getting a new structure, built around one 11-minute story. That means more focus on character-driven fun, heartwarming lessons, and the kind of monster-sized laughs that have kept the show alive for over 50 years.
Behind the scenes, Sal Perez and Kay Wilson Stallings continue to serve as executive producers, while Halcyon Person (Karma’s World, Dee & Friends in Oz) steps in as head writer, bringing a fresh creative voice to the long-running classic.
This Netflix move comes after a dramatic year in which Sesame Street almost faced cancellation when Warner Bros. Discovery dropped it from Max. Thankfully, Netflix swooped in to secure worldwide rights, forming a public-private partnership with PBS and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to keep the show on air. That means new episodes will launch globally on Netflix, while also airing free on PBS stations and PBS KIDS platforms in the USA.
‘Sesame Street’ Season 56 premieres Monday, 10th November 2025, on Netflix worldwide, and will also air the same day in the USA on PBS stations and PBS KIDS platforms.
