Apple TV+ Unveils Trailer For Season Five Of ‘Slow Horses’ Starring Sir Gary Oldman

by Dave Elliott

Apple TV+ has dropped the trailer for season five of the espionage masterpiece Slow Horses, the show we will happily shout from rooftops as one of the very best dramas on television. Honestly, this series is worth the Apple TV+ subscription on its own. And if that wasn’t enough excitement, we now get to enjoy the glorious chaos of Jackson Lamb, led by none other than the newly knighted Sir Gary Oldman, presumably landing the accolade for services to grumpily chain-smoking, flatulent genius spymasters (along with his myriad of other brilliant acting work).

Based on London Rules, the fifth season sees our favourite MI5 rejects once again dragged into a mess only they could unravel. When resident hacker Roddy Ho somehow acquires a glamorous new girlfriend, the rest of Slough House are instantly suspicious. Cue bizarre events erupting across London and, as always, it’s down to the “Slow Horses” to connect the dots. As Jackson Lamb is fond of reminding us, the London Rules are simple – cover your back.

The cast continues to be stellar. Alongside Oldman, the line-up features Kristin Scott Thomas (The English Patient), Jack Lowden (Fighting With My Family), Saskia Reeves (Luther), Rosalind Eleazar (Deep Water), Christopher Chung (Waterloo Road), Aimee-Ffion Edwards (Peaky Blinders), Ruth Bradley (Humans), James Callis (Battlestar Galactica), Tom Brooke (Bodyguard), and the legendary Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes). This season even ropes in Nick Mohammed (Ted Lasso) as a guest star, which feels like MI5 recruitment has taken a particularly comedic twist.

The critics haven’t been shy about their love for Slow Horses, praising it as “undoubtedly the best spy series on television,” “utterly brilliant,” and just “so damn good.” With nine Primetime Emmy nominations (including a writing win) and multiple perfect Rotten Tomatoes scores under its belt, the series isn’t slowing down any time soon. Apple has already confirmed seasons six and seven, meaning the Slough House chaos will keep flowing.

Season five is directed by Saul Metzstein, who earned an Emmy nod for his work on season three, with Will Smith continuing his excellent adaptation of Mick Herron’s award-winning novels. Produced by See-Saw Films, this is prestige TV with a shot of whisky, a whiff of cigarette smoke, and a sardonic insult hurled across the office.

Slow Horses‘ Season 5 premieres Wednesday, 24th September 2025 on Apple TV+.
