Prime Video has officially locked in its Lara Croft, and it is none other than Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones, Joan). The streamer has confirmed the long-gestating ‘Tomb Raider‘ series is heading into production, with Turner set to lead and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Killing Eve) writing, executive producing and serving as co-showrunner.
Joining Waller-Bridge on showrunning duties is Chad Hodge (Good Behavior, Wayward Pines), while Jonathan Van Tulleken (Shogun, Dope Thief) has been tapped to direct and executive produce. The series is being produced by Amazon MGM Studios in partnership with Story Kitchen, Crystal Dynamics and Legendary Television.
Turner steps into one of gaming’s most iconic roles, previously brought to life on screen by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, and most recently voiced by Hayley Atwell (Agent Carter) in Netflix’s animated Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft.
“I’m so excited to announce the formidable Sophie Turner as our Lara alongside this phenomenal creative team,” said Waller-Bridge. “It’s not very often you get to make a show of this scale with a character you grew up loving. Everyone on board is wildly passionate about Lara and are all as outrageous, brave, and hilarious as she is. Get your artifacts out… Croft is coming…”
Turner added: “I am thrilled beyond measure, to be playing Lara Croft. She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many – and I am giving everything I’ve got. They’re massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands. I can’t wait for you all to see what we have cooking.”
Production is set to kick off in January 2026, three years after Waller-Bridge was first reported to be developing the series under her overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios.
