Apple TV+ Renews Epic Sci-Fi Saga ‘Foundation’ For Season Four

by Dave Elliott

Apple TV+ has confirmed that its hit series Foundation will be returning for a fourth season, with production expected to begin in early 2026. The renewal comes just ahead of the highly anticipated season three finale, which lands globally this Friday.

Co-showrunners Ian Goldberg and David Kob said, “There is no series quite like ‘Foundation’ and we feel lucky and honored to be carrying the torch forward as co-showrunners into season four. We look forward to continuing the epic, emotional storytelling that defined the first three seasons of the show, and to be working alongside some of the most talented, passionate creative partners in the business.”

Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple TV+, added, “It’s been fantastic to watch ‘Foundation’ become such a global phenomenon, with fans tuning in from every corner of the world. With each new season, the excitement around this trailblazing sci-fi epic just keeps building due to the bold storytelling and collective artistry of this extraordinarily talented cast and creative team. We’re excited to keep exploring this universe together in season four.”

Season three has been praised as “visually stunning,” “breathtaking,” and “the gold standard for all science fiction programming.” The series stars Emmy-nominated Jared Harris (Chernobyl) and Lee Pace (Halt and Catch Fire), alongside Lou Llobell. This year’s episodes also introduced new cast members including Emmy Award winner Cherry Jones (Succession), Brandon P. Bell (Dear White People), Synnøve Karlsen (Medici), Cody Fern (American Horror Story), Tómas Lemarquis (Blade Runner 2049), Alexander Siddig (Deep Space Nine), Academy Award winner Troy Kotsur (CODA), and Pilou Asbæk (Game of Thrones). Returning regulars include Laura Birn (The Innocents), Cassian Bilton (The Devil’s Hour), Terrence Mann (Sense8), and Rowena King (Shining Girls).

Season three’s story saw the Foundation grow into a major galactic power while the Cleonic Dynasty’s Empire faltered. Both forces forged an uneasy alliance, only to face a greater threat in the form of The Mule, a warlord wielding terrifying military strength and psychic control. The finale, titled “The Darkness,” finds Gaal Dornick and the Second Foundation clashing with The Mule as the Emperor’s legacy faces collapse.

Behind the camera, the series is produced for Apple by Paramount Television Studios. Ian Goldberg and David Kob serve as co-showrunners and executive producers alongside Bill Bost, Lee Pace, Michael Satrazemis, Robyn Asimov, and David S. Goyer.

Foundation‘ Season 3 concludes this Friday, 12th September 2025, on Apple TV+. ‘Foundation’ Season 4 is set to begin production in 2026.
