ITV has announced the cast for ‘Adultery’, a new six-part scandalous romance drama from BAFTA-winning writer Danny Brocklehurst (Fool Me Once, Brassic), produced by Poison Pen Studios (part of ITV Studios). Filming has just begun in and around Manchester.
Dominic Cooper (Preacher, The Devil’s Double) and Romola Garai (One Life, Vigil), fresh from winning an Olivier Award for her stage work in The Years, lead the series as Tom Kirkman and Beth Brookes. The pair share an immediate, intense connection that quickly spirals into a passionate affair. As their desires grow harder to resist, Tom and Beth must wrestle with guilt and the devastating impact their relationship could have on their families.
Joining them are Shelley Conn (Gen V, Bridgerton) as Tom’s wife Hannah, and Matthew McNulty (Domina, Deadwater Fell) as Beth’s husband Neil. The drama also introduces rising star Johnny Sanpher and Leila Khan (Heartstopper, Crookhaven) as teenage lovers Jess Kirkman and Ollie Brookes, mirroring their parents’ tangled emotions with a fiery intensity of their own.
Rounding out the cast are Andrew Knott (Gavin & Stacey, Protection) as Dave, the ex-husband of Beth’s late best friend, alongside James Murray (The Crown, Masters of the Air) and Charley Webb (The Long Shadow, Better) as Paul and Leah Kirkman, Tom’s brother and sister-in-law.
At its heart, ‘Adultery’ isn’t just about forbidden passion, but also tackles class divides, grief, the pitfalls of social media, and the messy complications of parenthood. The series asks: will Tom and Beth find the strength to resist temptation where their lovestruck teenage children cannot, or will their lives unravel completely?
Speaking about the project, writer Danny Brocklehurst said:
“It’s a wonderful privilege to assemble such an amazing cast for Adultery. The characters in our show have complex emotional lives and we needed the very best acting talent to bring them to the screen. I couldn’t be more thrilled.”
Executive producer Ben Stephenson added:
“I am thrilled that we have assembled such a high calibre cast for Danny’s wonderful scripts. Dominic and Romola are two remarkable actors at the peak of their careers and it’s hugely exciting to see what they bring to this juicy gripping and complex show alongside their amazing co leads Matthew and Shelley.”
The series will be directed by Will Sinclair (episodes 1-3) and Daniel O’Hara (episodes 4-6), with Sarah Lewis as series producer. Executive producers are Ben Stephenson, Preethi Mavahalli, Luke Woellhaf, Danny Brocklehurst and Polly Hill for ITV.
‘Adultery’ (6×60) is produced in association with ITV Studios, who will also handle international distribution.
