Prime Video has released the official trailer for ‘Harlan Coben’s Lazarus’, the brand-new psychological thriller from the bestselling author and his long-time collaborator Danny Brocklehurst, coming this October.
Unlike Coben’s previous Netflix hits such as The Stranger and Fool Me Once, which adapted his novels, Lazarus is an entirely original story co-written with BAFTA-winner Brocklehurst. It blends spine-tingling supernatural elements with a dark family mystery, promising something fresh for viewers who think they know a “Coben twist.”
At the centre of the drama is Joel Lazarus, played by Sam Claflin (Peaky Blinders, Daisy Jones & The Six), a well-respected forensic psychologist who has spent years running from painful family trauma. When his father, Dr. Jonathan Lazarus, dies by suicide, Joel returns home — but instead of closure, he’s plagued by disturbing visions and pulled into a chilling tangle of cold-case murders.
Dr. Lazarus is portrayed by the legendary Bill Nighy (Living, Love Actually). In life, he was a charismatic, witty figure loved by many. In death, he continues to cast a shadow over his son, determined that Joel realises just how alike they truly are.
The cast also features Alexandra Roach (Killing Eve) as Joel’s sister Jenna, who has buried herself in spiritual practice since the tragic murder of their sibling Sutton 25 years earlier. With Joel’s unsettling experiences, long-buried family secrets begin to rise to the surface. Additional cast includes David Fynn (The Power) as Seth McGovern, Karla Crome (Misfits) as Bella Catton, and Kate Ashfield (Shaun of the Dead) as Detective Alison Brown.
When the series was first announced, Coben described the project as “a tale of loss, redemption, and the eternal bond between a parent and a child, even after death.” Brocklehurst added that Lazarus is “a psychological thriller with an emotional spine. It’s about fathers and sons, love and loss. We have attempted to bring our trademark wit and warmth as well as twists galore.”
Behind the camera, Lazarus reunites many of the creatives who turned Coben’s dramas into international hits. Coben and Brocklehurst executive produce alongside BAFTA-winner Nicola Shindler (It’s A Sin, Happy Valley), Richard Fee (The Stranger), and Claflin himself. Wayne Che Yip (The Rings of Power, Fallout) directs the opening two episodes and also serves as executive producer, with Matt Strevens (Doctor Who) producing. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Quay Street Productions, part of ITV Studios, in association with Final Twist Productions.
Lazarus is also notable as Prime Video’s first major UK-based collaboration with the Coben/Brocklehurst/Quay Street team, following Netflix’s hugely successful run with Stay Close, Fool Me Once, and The Stranger. It comes after Amazon previously adapted Coben’s YA novel Shelter.
‘Lazarus’ Season 1 premieres Wednesday, 22nd October 2025, on Prime Video worldwide.
