MGM+ has unveiled the official trailer for ‘Robin Hood’, their new sweeping 10-episode adventure drama, offering a grounded yet romantic take on the legendary outlaw. The show arrives this November with a double-episode premiere, before releasing weekly instalments through to the season finale in late December.
This fresh version of the story centres on Rob, played by newcomer Jack Patten, a Saxon forester’s son whose life changes forever after the Norman invasion of England. His path collides with Marian, portrayed by Lauren McQueen (The Mill, The Queen’s Gambit), the daughter of a Norman lord who favours court intrigue over embroidery. Their forbidden romance drives the drama, as Rob rises to lead a band of rebel outlaws while Marian infiltrates the power structures of court to battle corruption from within.
The heavyweight cast also includes Sean Bean (Game of Thrones, Shardlake) as the Sheriff of Nottingham. This incarnation is a cunning statesman and strategist, described as a builder of Nottingham and cousin to King Henry II. Naturally, viewers will be wondering if Sean Bean manages to survive this outing. Connie Nielsen (Gladiator, Wonder Woman 1984) plays the formidable Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine, while Lydia Peckham (Cowboy Bebop) and Steven Waddington (The Last of the Mohicans, Jamestown) add further intrigue to the mix.
Behind the camera, the series comes from Lionsgate Television, with John Glenn (SEAL Team) serving as showrunner and Jonathan English (The Ark) directing the pilot. Both also write and executive produce, alongside Todd Lieberman of Hidden Pictures. Filmed at PFI Studios in Serbia, the creative team describes the show as a “grounded and gritty origin story” that balances steel-on-steel action with sweeping romance and political plotting.
Of course, Robin Hood is a story that has been reinvented many times for UK audiences, from mystical cult favourite Robin of Sherwood in the 1980s, to the anarchic kids’ comedy Maid Marian and Her Merry Men, and the swashbuckling 2006 BBC drama. MGM+ looks set to carve its own space in that lineage, with a mix of historical authenticity, realism, and romance.
‘Robin Hood’ Season 1 premieres Sunday, 2nd November 2025 on MGM+ in the USA, UK, Italy, Germany, Spain, Latin America, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. The series begins with two episodes before continuing weekly through to Sunday, 28th December 2025.
