The clan of two are heading to the big screen for the very first time! Lucasfilm has revealed the first teaser trailer for ‘Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu’, which will open exclusively in cinemas in May 2026.
Set after the fall of the Empire, the film finds Imperial warlords still scattered across the galaxy while the fledgling New Republic struggles to safeguard what the Rebellion fought so hard to win. To restore peace, the Republic turns to legendary bounty hunter Din Djarin, played once again by Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us, Game of Thrones), and his ever-adorable apprentice Grogu.
The teaser offers plenty for fans to pore over. A brand-new Razor Crest makes its debut, while Grogu spends time tinkering with his Anzellan pals (the same droidsmith species that brought Babu Frik to life in The Rise of Skywalker). A tiny telescope, a gladiator pit filled with full-sized Dejarik monsters, and the looming silhouette of a Hutt all hint at the scale of adventure that lies ahead. There’s even a poster reveal, featuring returning character Zeb Orrelios, a pair of Hutts, and Sigourney Weaver (Alien, Avatar) in a mysterious new role.
Behind the camera, the film reunites the team that helped turn The Mandalorian into a global hit. Jon Favreau writes and directs, teaming up on the screenplay with Dave Filoni, who also produces alongside Kathleen Kennedy and Ian Bryce. The score comes from Academy Award winner Ludwig Göransson, whose choice to bring “space pan pipes” into the Star Wars universe gave Din and Grogu their instantly recognisable sound. It was a bold step away from the orchestral traditions of John Williams, but that eerie, western-infused vibe has since become as iconic as the duo themselves. Expect Göransson to turn it up to eleven for the big screen.
‘Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu’ will be released on Friday, 22nd May 2026, filmed for IMAX and promising the duo’s biggest adventure yet on the largest of screens.
