The BBC has released the first trailer for ‘Film Club’, its forthcoming romantic comedy-drama, and confirmed the series will arrive this October on BBC iPlayer and BBC Three.
Co-created and co-written by BAFTA-winner Aimee Lou Wood (Daddy Issues, Sex Education, The White Lotus) and Ralph Davis (House of the Dragon, Big Boys, Othello), the six-part series is produced by Gaumont (Obsession, Locked In, Lupin, Narcos) and has been a passion project for the pair for over a decade.
The trailer introduces us to Evie (Wood), who has not left the house in six months after what she describes as a “wobble.” Her lifeline is film club, a weekly ritual where she transforms her mum’s garage into whatever the chosen movie requires, and spends precious time with her best friend Noa (Nabhaan Rizwan). This week’s screening comes with a plot twist as Noa has a dream job on the other side of the country. For the first time, both must face the possibility that they might be more than just friends, whether they are ready to admit it or not.
As if Evie’s world were not complicated enough, she also has to deal with the eccentricities of her family home. She lives with her fiercely loving single mum Suz (Suranne Jones), her younger sister Izzie (Liv Hill), and her charming boyfriend Josh (Adam Long), who has perhaps become a little too comfortable as “man of the house.” Adding to the mix is her infuriating neighbour Callum, played by rising star Owen Cooper (Adolescence). Since filming this series, Cooper has gone on to make history as the youngest male actor ever to win an Emmy thanks to his acclaimed turn in the Netflix hit Adolescence.
The ensemble is rounded out by Arian Nik (Passenger), Fola Evans-Akingbola (The Night Agent), co-creator Ralph Davis as Dominic, and Lisa McGrillis (Rivals, Sex Education) as neighbour Steph.
Behind the camera, the series is directed by Catherine Morshead (Daddy Issues, The Full Monty), with producers Stella Merz (Gentleman Jack) and Hannah Pescod (The Lovers). Episode four comes from guest writer Anna Jordan (One Day, Killing Eve).
‘Film Club’ Season 1 premieres Tuesday, 7th October 2025 on BBC iPlayer (from 6am) and BBC Three (from 10pm, with a two-episode launch).
