Netflix has dropped the full trailer for ‘The Beast in Me’, and it looks every bit as gripping as you’d expect from creator Gabe Rotter (The X-Files) and showrunner Howard Gordon (Homeland). The eight-episode psychological thriller stars Claire Danes (Fleishman Is in Trouble, Homeland) and Matthew Rhys (The Americans, Perry Mason), in what promises to be a dark and unnervingly intimate battle of wills between neighbours.
Danes plays Aggie Wiggs, a grieving author whose quiet suburban life is upended when Nile Jarvis, played by Rhys, moves in next door. Nile isn’t just any new neighbour, but a notorious real estate tycoon accused of murdering his wife. When he agrees to let Aggie write a book about him, their connection spirals into obsession, danger, and self-revelation.
As the trailer shows, Aggie asks the question everyone is thinking: “Did you kill her?” Nile’s chilling response, “What do you think?” sets the tone for a story that blurs the line between predator and prey.
Danes has described her inspiration for the role, saying, “There was a book that I kept referencing when I first started thinking about this story, called The Journalist and the Murderer. You start to see this writer and this murderer have a kind of equal value. And how is that possible? I thought it was really interesting, this idea of writer as sniper, as a potentially predatory character.”
Rhys also teased the twisted symmetry between the two leads, saying, “There is enormous similarity between them. And I think they recognise that in each other. They see each other as peers, very unlikely peers. That is as much a kind of revelation as it is an attraction.”
The cast also features Jonathan Banks (Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad), Brittany Snow (Pitch Perfect, The Hunting Wives), Natalie Morales (No Hard Feelings, My Dead Friend Zoe), David Lyons (Truth Be Told, Seven Seconds), Deirdre O’Connell (The Penguin), Hettienne Park (The Last of Us, The Outsider), and Aleyse Shannon (Leverage: Redemption).
Behind the scenes, the series is written by Daniel Pearle (American Crime Story) and directed by Antonio Campos, with executive producers Jodie Foster, Caroline Baron, and Conan O’Brien joining Rotter and Gordon on the creative team.
‘The Beast in Me’ premieres Thursday, 13th November 2025 on Netflix.
