Rome Wasn’t Built In A Day… But You Can Try! Ubisoft Reveals Campaign, Year 1 Pass & Deep Dive Details For ‘Anno 117: Pax Romana’

by Dave Elliott

Ubisoft has lifted the marble curtain on ‘Anno 117: Pax Romana’, giving us our first look at the game’s ambitious campaign, Year 1 Pass, and an extensive new Deep Dive trailer that showcases how you’ll build, govern, and worship your way through the Roman Empire.

The video walkthrough reveals that the game is set during the Golden Age of Rome, the year 117 AD, with players taking the role of a newly appointed Roman Governor. You’ll begin in the idyllic heartland of Latium before being exiled to the wild Celtic wetlands of Albian, managing trade, expansion, and diplomacy across vastly different provinces. Every decision shapes your legacy: will you enforce Roman order or adapt to local traditions?

Building and Economy
City-building starts humbly, with a trading post, roads, housing, and supply chains producing core resources like lumber and wine. Each island has its own fertility and resources — lavender fields in Latium, eel fisheries in Albian — pushing you to tailor your economy to your environment. Efficient supply chains and smart city layouts will keep your citizens happy and your storage filled.

Innovation and Governing Style
Knowledge plays a key role through buildings like the Grammaticus, which fuels a Discovery Tree for new technologies. Your approach influences your empire’s evolution: a Roman governor might drain the Albian marshes, while a Celtic-minded leader learns to thrive within them.

Religion and Beliefs
Players can dedicate temples to patron gods to gain bonuses and shape their empire’s destiny. Roman gods such as Mars and Ceres empower armies and agriculture, while Celtic deities like Apona bring prosperity to farmlands. Devotion unlocks powerful “exaltation” effects that reshape production and exploration.

Diplomacy and Conflict
As your influence grows, diplomacy will determine whether you face trade partners or raiding enemies. Imperial favour matters too — align too closely with local customs and you might anger the Emperor. Military strength also returns, allowing players to train legions, build fleets, and fortify provinces with watchtowers and palisades.

Multiplayer options allow friends to cooperate as neighbouring provinces or compete for imperial glory, while sandbox mode offers limitless creative freedom.

Campaign

In single-player mode, players can finally forge their own path as a character within the Anno world. Step into the sandals of Marcus, a reluctant governor looking to prove himself, or Marcia, whose rise through a male-dominated empire challenges the Roman order. Each storyline promises a deeply personal campaign about power, culture, and the cost of peace.

Year 1 Pass Content

Ubisoft Mainz also revealed a full roadmap for the game’s first year of post-launch content.

DLC 1 – Provinces of Ash
Explore the largest island in Anno history, crowned by a colossal volcano and devoted to a new god. Expect new resources, trade routes, and challenges.

DLC 2 – The Hippodrome
Construct a monumental arena inspired by the Circus Maximus, where players can host chariot races to boost prestige and attract elite specialists.

DLC 3 – Dawn of the Delta
Journey to a new Egyptian-inspired province filled with deserts, rivers, and new cultural influences that push your empire’s boundaries even further.

The Year 1 Pass is included in the Gold Edition or available separately.

‘Anno 117: Pax Romana’ is developed by Ubisoft Mainz (the team behind Anno 1800) and will launch on Thursday, 13th November 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Amazon Luna, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Ubisoft Connect.
