Disney+ is adding another delightfully odd creation to its growing UK slate, as the streamer unveils ‘Mosquito‘, a wry relationship comedy written by two-time Oscar-nominated and BAFTA-winning writer Tony McNamara. The show teams up Nicholas Hoult (Superman, Nosferatu) and Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People, Twisters) for what promises to be a sharply observed look at the cracks that form when married life meets inconvenient truths. And in this case, all the chaos begins with an uninvited mosquito.
‘ Mosquito’ follows Kate and Ed, a newly married couple who start to shed their carefully curated personas once daily frustrations, unspoken secrets, and one persistent flying intruder begin to peel back the varnish. It is McNamara doing what McNamara does best, twisting domestic tension into something darkly funny and painfully relatable.
Tony McNamara said, “I’m thrilled and excited to work with and team up two of the best actors around. I can’t wait to go make absurd comedy with them.”
In a joint statement, Eric Schrier and Angela Jain added, “Tony is one of the most talented writers working in film and television today, with a legacy of incredible success at Disney. He has an unmatched ability to bring fascinating and complex stories to life, weaving sharply written, intricate dialogue with signature dark humour and complexity. Partnering with him on ‘Mosquito’ is an incredible step forward for our local original content and reinforces our ambitions in the UK.”
The six-episode series marks a reunion between McNamara and Nicholas Hoult, following their award-nominated run on The Great. Production companies include 20th Television, Piggy Ate Roast Beef Productions and Hustle & Punch, with executive producers Tony McNamara, Nicholas Hoult, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Marian Macgowan, Tracy Underwood and Daniel Pipski. The series was commissioned for Disney+ by Lee Mason.
Filming begins in 2026 and it will stream internationally on Disney+ and on Hulu in the USA. No premiere date has been announced.
‘ Mosquito‘ does not yet have a premiere date but will air on Disney+ in the UK. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you will be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
