‘The Testaments’ Sets April UK Premiere on Disney+ as Gilead’s Story Continues

by Dave Elliott

Disney has confirmed when viewers will return to Gilead, with The Testaments launching in the UK this April on Disney. The new drama is positioned as the next chapter in the world first introduced in ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’, expanding the story through a new generation living under the regime’s rules.

Based on Margaret Atwood’s novel of the same name, the series is described as an evolution rather than a straight continuation. The story follows two teenage girls growing up inside Gilead. Agnes is dutiful and deeply conditioned by the system, while Daisy arrives from outside its borders and is forced to adapt quickly. Both find themselves inside Aunt Lydia’s elite school for future wives, where faith, obedience and punishment are tightly intertwined. Their growing bond begins to challenge everything they have been taught and threatens the foundations of the world around them.

Leading the cast is Ann Dowd, returning as Aunt Lydia, alongside Chase Infiniti in a central role. They are joined by Lucy Halliday, Mabel Li, Amy Seimetz, Brad Alexander, Rowan Blanchard, Mattea Conforti, Zarrin Darnell-Martin, Eva Foote, Isolde Ardies, Shechinah Mpumlwana, Birva Pandya and Kira Guloien.

The series is created for television by Bruce Miller, who also serves as showrunner and executive producer. The wider executive team includes Warren Littlefield, Elisabeth Moss, Steve Stark, Shana Stein, Maya Goldsmith, John Weber, Sheila Hockin, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears and Mike Barker, with Barker also directing the opening three episodes. The drama is produced by MGM Television.

‘The Testaments’ will debut with a three-episode launch, followed by weekly episodes on Disney in the UK.

The Testaments’ premieres Tuesday, 8th April 2026 on Disney+ UK and Hulu in the USA.
