The BBC has snapped up ‘I, Jack Wright’ for a second season, bringing the gripping family murder mystery to BBC iPlayer and BBC One. The broadcaster has also acquired season one of ‘I, Jack Wright’, which will air later this year, meaning the entire saga of the deeply dysfunctional Wright clan is heading to a much wider UK audience.
Originally airing on U&alibi and BritBox in 2025, the drama is written by Chris Lang (Unforgotten, Innocent, The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe) and blends inheritance wars, bitter rivalries and a suspicious death into one seriously moreish whodunnit.
Season one introduced us to the aftermath of the apparent suicide of wealthy businessman Jack Wright. As his wives and children turned on each other over the remains of his estate, a determined detective began to suspect there was far more going on beneath the polished surface of this well-heeled family.
Season two promises to crank the chaos up even further.
What Happens In Season 2?
The Wrights are back and somehow even more combustible. Still reeling from Jack’s death, the family are thrown into fresh turmoil when one of their own is arrested for his murder. But have the police actually got the right suspect? And perhaps more pressingly for this particular clan, what does it mean for the inheritance payouts?
With a new family member entering the picture, two new wills emerging and three new bodies on the slate, season two dives headfirst into even darker territory.
Returning Cast And New Faces
Leading the charge once again are Nikki Amuka-Bird (Betrayal) as Sally Wright and John Simm (Grace) as Gray Wright. They’re joined by returning cast members Ruby Ashbourne Serkis (Shardlake) as Emily Wright, Daniel Rigby (Landscapers) as John Wright, and Harry Lloyd (Game of Thrones) as DCI Morgan.
New additions for season two include Tom Austen (Rematch) and Zora Bishop (Hijack).
Season two is directed by Jon East (The Last Kingdom, Trigger Point, Killing Eve) and produced by Kingsley Hoskins (Trigger Point, The Flatshare, The Road Trip), with executive producers Polly Williams for Federation Stories, Chris Lang and Nickie Sault.
Sue Deeks, Head of Scripted Pre-buy Acquisitions at the BBC, says:
“I, Jack Wright is a terrific family thriller. Full of enjoyable performances, with really clever twists and turns, it is simply pure entertainment.”
Polly Williams, Executive Producer at Federation Stories, adds:
“I, Jack Wright is a riotous, pacey treat and we are so thrilled that series 1 and 2 will air on BBC. Dysfunctional families are endlessly fascinating, and in I, Jack Wright, Chris has created an unforgettable crew whom we hope audiences will be appalled, moved, and surprised by.”
Season one of ‘I, Jack Wright’ originally aired on U&alibi and BritBox in 2025.
