Geektown Radio – Episode 487: Paradise Season 2, Scrubs Returns, Vanished, The Dutchman & Paramount/Warner Bros Deal

by Dave Elliott

This week on Geektown Radio, Dave is joined by Domingos from thesundayfilmclub.com for a tightly packed episode covering post-apocalyptic twists, intense psychological drama, a sitcom revival, and a rather enormous industry shake-up involving Paramount and Warner Bros.

From ‘Paradise’ expanding its universe in Season 2 to the return of ‘Scrubs’, plus talk of ‘Vanished’, ‘Gone’, and a modern adaptation of ‘The Dutchman’, there is plenty to get through.

What We’ve Been Watching

Domingos kicks off with ‘The Dutchman’, the new adaptation of Amiri Baraka’s 1964 play starring André Holland, Kate Mara, Zazie Beetz and Aldis Hodge. It is a tense, surreal psychological drama exploring race, identity and power in contemporary America.

He also dives into Paradise Season 2 on Hulu, which widens the scope beyond the bunker reveal of Season 1 and leans into full survival drama territory. There is also praise for ‘Only in the Land’, the Arsenal Women documentary charting their historic Champions League campaign, and Netflix’s lavish Tang Dynasty epic ‘Unveil: Jadewind’.

Dave pays tribute to Red Dwarf co-creator Rob Grant, then reviews ITV thriller Gone starring Eve Myles and David Morrissey. The long-awaited Scrubs revival gets a proper discussion, and Prime Video mystery Vanished starring Kaley Cuoco also comes under the microscope. He also checks in on Red Eye Season 2 and ‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’.

TV News: Renewals & Big Industry Moves

On the news front, ‘Industry’ and ‘Doctor Foster’ are heading into final seasons, ‘Robin Hood’ lands a renewal, and NBC’s renewal bubble gets a detailed breakdown.

The major talking point is Paramount’s move to acquire Warner Bros after Netflix walked away with a $2.8bn breakup fee. With regulatory hurdles still ahead and DC’s future in play, there is plenty to speculate about.

Elsewhere, Ryan Coogler’s ‘The X-Files’ reboot lands a Hulu pilot, ‘The Rockford Files’ casts Michaela McManus opposite David Boreanaz, ‘Ghosts’ UK heads to the big screen, and Nathan Fillion teases something Firefly-related that is definitely not a podcast.
